The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 in red just dropped in price to $273.78 on Amazon. Black, blue and silver are all still hovering around $300.

Hope this helps someone. I've had my eye on this camera for a while and finally had to go ahead and take the plunge.

(edit to include hypen in model # for better search)

Paid 365.96 in August!
Very good price for a good wide angle, HD video camera.
Green 4 OP

If not for the time of year, I would be all over this.

Good find, OP.

I came to FW to verify the price is the lowest for the red model that was in my cart just now.... I bought for $268

Woot

I am not sure why, that if you beat a deal by a few dollars, you are so proud that you dump on a contributor for providing a generally good deal for most people and trying to help folks. Seems to me you are just out to scold someone for not finding a deal you got that no longer exists. This is a great deal for this camera. Someone wants to spend days or months waiting for it to come back to Woot, they can beat it by $10 or less? Most people have a life.

Or maybe we can all list the great deals we got at some clearance sale that only exists in East Podunk.

Anyone know if this is a reputable dealer? It has the same camera for $229.

Edit: After doing some basic googling, it seems we should stay away from this site.

i bought it for 257 from Amazon when it was on sale...the black one.

Wow great for you. And that helps anyone that wants it now how?

I got one cent last week on a clearance sale!!

Wow. Sorry I missed that. I've been tracking this camera (in all colors) for a while and have never seen it that low. Thankfully, my online searches never brought up the $229 from Need4Digital either so I'm happy to have avoided what would have truly been a debacle. Glad I stuck with Amazon.

I forgot to wipe my feet at the door, since there is some crap around here. You should look harder. I already gave boost to the OP.

I am helping people, not dumping on them, I am notifying users that the price, at the time I ordered was lower than the OP... seems like I am the one helping!.

Can someone please tell me why this camera is so popular and whether I should buy or pay more and get a digital SLR. Thank you

this camera takes "good" pictures, has "good" video, and is pretty cheap. dslr's take better photos with good glass, most dont have video, and to get the same zoom range you will need more than just the lense that comes with it, and good lenses are very expensive. if you want the zoom range but arent willing to shell out for good lenses then get a point and shoot. cheap lenses on an dslr will provide cheap looking pics. I am on my 3rd dslr, have many lenses, own several p&s's, and plan on purchasing this one in the near future.

OP here. I was interested in this camera for a couple of reasons. First is the size - I want a camera that I know I will carry with me all the time (like the Sony I have now). Yes, a DSLR will take better pictures, but it won't take ANY pictures if I don't have it with me. Since I work for a newspaper (NOT as a photographer), it is more important that I am prepared. What I wanted to upgrade is the zoom feature - in my case from 5x to 12x optical zoom since I find myself using this a lot. What was the deciding factor for me on this particular camera was the HD video capability that also has the zoom feature in video mode (it's nearest competitor - the Canon 200IS does not have this). I do not own a separate video camera and am not planning on getting one anytime soon so I thought this would be a good compromise for my situation. I am not a photography buff, just a layperson that wants something with good features, takes decent pictures and is fairly easy to use. This seems to fit for me. A more experienced photographer may want something more sophisticated.

I'm certainly open to suggestions if there is something else out there that fits what I have been looking for.

Thank you for your input.

6Ave.com has the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10MP 12X Digital Camera for a low $271.70 with Free Shipping after 5% off Coupon Code: AFL5 (Ongoing). Tax in NY, NJ, PA.

6Ave doesn't ship to APO's
I got an offer of $267.00 through the Name Your Price deal.
But can't take advantage as I'm in Germany w/ an APO.
Still stalking the Amazon price in the meantime. Anyone see it cheaper elsewhere?

Try the Lumix DMC-ZS1 -- a cheaper version of the ZS3.
Same Leica wide angle lens. Also 12 x zoom;
Difference -- the ZS1 has normal (640x480?) vs HD video.
Can get it for under $200 if you combine available cash backs --
eg electronics expo and Bing.

Bad reviews of DeltaCamera.com when I Google them. Anyone buy from them? Sound like they try to upsell you or your item is on backorder.

Delta Camera, Need4Digital and SupremeCamera are scammers and fruad businesses. Avoid them. search internet for "<name> scam" and you will know it.

Costco in Stockton CA has this camera (black) for 300 including a soft case and 2 G SDHC as bonus.
