I've been using this WD10EADS drive for my cable DVR's external storage connection. It has been FLAWLESS and QUIET with less heat for over 1 year.

There's a good chance to get the newer 2-platter version from the EADS line by now. IIRC, if the S/N starts with "WCAV" it should be the higher density (i.e. faster 500 GB/platter) model, whose performance should rival that of the older 4- or even 3-platter 7200rpm counterparts (except the seek times, of course).

Bump for visibility...

Wanted to share my experience with this rebate.

Before sending in documentation, called the rebate dept and asked what was a "Item Number Sticker" instructions referred to. After being put on hold (the person didn't know) I was told it is the sticker on the hard drive (!). I found it insane that they'd request it but knowing how the goal is to not let you actually get your rebate, I took a picture of the HD sticker and send everything in. (Notice that since the HD is OEM it came with NOTHING, except for a packing list, a copy of which I've mailed).

Fast forward a few weeks, I get a rejections because I didn't include the "Item Number Sticker" (which I never received). Rebate people were useless. I am waiting to call zipzoomfly (8:30AM PST) to request an RMA for refund.

In my experience this rebate is a pure scam. Anyone has similar/different experience?

Cheers

Different experience here. All my ZZF rebate have been processed/accepted, though they usually take 3 months to finally pay. The item number sticker is on the anti-static bag (as I did participate in this rebate and it shows approved). Removal of any labels or stickers from the physical hard drive will not only void the rebate, but also your warranty. Good luck getting them to fix it! From my tracking information for rebate ZZF-10009: Email was sent for Confirmation 10/03/2009
Email was confirmed by the user 10/03/2009
Printed claim registration, awaiting receipt of documentation 10/03/2009
Documentation Received 10/21/2009
Claim was Approved 10/29/2009

squinky,
Thanks for sharing, no anti-static bag was shipped. My HD was shipped in a white foam "box" (I just double checked; have all the original materials).

I am waiting for their call center to open. Sincerely hope that they can either help with this rebate or pay for RMA shipment and refund. It'd be a hassle to go the BBB, State AGs (they are in CA, I am in NY), CEO route.

Fry's had it on sale a couple weeks ago for $55

I'm pretty sure your HD was shipped in an anti-static bag. It was the transparent, silvery thingy the HD was wrapped in, inside the white foam box. The label should have been stickered to the anti-static bag. All OEM HDs come in either an anti-static bag or a plastic shell. If your HD came bare by itself in the white foam box, then there is something seriously wrong.

I bought a Seagate 500GB HD from ZZF, and here's my rebate progress:

Email was sent for Confirmation 10/26/2009
Email was confirmed by the user 10/26/2009
Documentation Received 11/04/2009
Claim was Approved 11/06/2009

So it's pretty smooth like squinky86 stated. Rebate was approved in 2 days of receiving, but have to wait 8-10 weeks for them to mail it.

Basically, the HD should look something like this picture I'm attaching. But the label will be different, as I bought this HD from Fry's. The ZZF label is kinda like that, but with a ZZF product number and barcode.

Whoops, just noticed that the ZZF-10009 rebate is for both the sata dvd burner and hard drive. I sent the hard drive rebate to my dad's house in his name at a later date than the dvd burner. Unfortunately, the server that stores all my copies is down right now. As soon as it comes back up, I'll post the scan of the anti-static bag label.

My hard drive came inside an anti-static bag that was in the foam shipping container (very well packaged, might I add). Inside the anti-static bag was a packet of silica and the hard drive. I've never heard of a bare hard drive just sitting in the foam shipping container. IIRC, the label was generic, so you may be able to just resubmit it with another person's scan

Attached is a scan of the ZZF product number, cut from the anti-static bag.
