80GB PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Includes Two DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controllers.
Two questions:
1) Where does it state that you get TWO (2) wireless controllers? All I see is this: "Includes DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller."
2) What advantages doe the fat unit have to the slim? I can get a 120 GB slim for $299 any day of the week. I can pick this up for $50 less (80 GB vs. 120GB). I guess I could use the $50 savings to buy a larger HD.

Tempting... too bad that there's no working 10% off coupon.
The fat unit has 4 USB ports vs Slim 2 USB ports and the Fat still supports running Linux on it (the Slim does not). For $50 off, plus another controller ($30-$40) value, I think this is a pretty good deal

This is very tempting with the free extra controller (selling for $50 on eBay if you don't need the extra one).
So, with tax and selling the extra controller I could pretty much get a PS3 80gb fat for $225 shipped to my door. That is very tempting. Worth it over the SLIM?
Sorry, that's correct, that fat PS3 also only has 2 USB ports. However, neither the Slim nor the recent FAT PS3 play PS2 games (they do play most Playstation 1 games, AFAIK). The FAT does support other OS install which the slim doesn't.

All PS3's can play PS1 games.
Really? I was just about to go get a PS2 to play some of the older Final Fantasy games. How do game saves work? Do they just save on the hard drive?
If I remember correctly, the PS3 has a handler that does PS1 saves into a virtual container.. so yes, it does save to the hard drive.

It allows PS1 saves via virtual memory format:
Step 1: Boot up your PlayStation 3 and let it load to the XMB (Cross Media Bar). Navigate to the Game heading in the XMB. Step 2: Select "Memory Card Utility" from the given options. You will then be shown 2 options: PS1 and PS2. Choose "PS1" from the given options and allow the PlayStation 3 to format the data. Step 3: Exit out of the Memory Card Utility to finish formatting your game. From here, saving a game will work

So, anyone have a good opinion for someone who has been looking for a PS3? Would you get this model over SLIM because of this deal?
FYI, I recently ordered the PS3 slim for the toys r us deal but my order was cancelled due to a toys r us coupon code mistake. I really want me a PS3.

I ordered this posted deal in lieu of my PS3 Slim order I placed yesterday (which is currently being cancelled).
Deep down I wanted to install Yellow Dog (not possible on the Slim)... but the deal breaker was the $50 savings + extra controller. I also ordered the wireless keypad to get my order to $299, so I can get my $100 statement credit on my Sony card.
So breakdown for me:
Fat PS3 Extra DS3 controller PS3Wireless Keypad 3% Cash Back (-$9) $100 statement credit (For first SonyStyle $299 purchase; I signed up early last month) Tax (+$27) = $218 Shipped!

Wow, great deal!
I may just pull the trigger. Once I go FAT, I won't go back.
Does the FAT and SLIM have the same warranty? Is it 1 year?
Also, does this version of the FAT have the latest controller?
Update: Just bought it. My first Sony console, hah.

Ordered this last week at $299 w/second controller then the $50 Credit through the PS Credit Card. Called SonyStyle tonight, they'll price match since it's within the 30 days, so it's $249, then the $50 credit, plus an extra controller, so with tax, $220ish, but you can also get a 3 year extended warranty for $29 instead of $79, because the price drop puts this PS3 in a separate pricing category. So $250ish for a New PS3, 2 controllers, 3 year warranty....Priced at Best Buy w/a 2 year warranty, $426.35. I think it's a hella deal.

Can I get the 3yr warranty later on like in the first month of purchase? I would think I could, I skipped that option upon ordering.

I think, don't quote me, it's anytime within the first 6 months.

I will give them a call soon. I am thinking you can because I remember a friend doing that on a TV a few years back. I think you have either 45 or 90 days to add the warranty.

Thanks OP! I have been looking for a good deal on a PS3. I signed up for the SonyStyle credit card for the additional $50 off. It will come to $222.18. These go for ~$185 used on eBay (without the extra $40 controller).

If you bought this with your SonyStyle card, there's an extra year warranty with it. Probably also on the Playstation card... so you'll be paying $29 for that last year of the three year warranty. I'd have to think that chance of failure in that particular year, plus time value of your $29, plus the expected drop in price in the next two years, you're probably much better off skipping the warranty.
(Two years from now, a new PS3 will cost... what? $150? So you're betting 5:1 that your system will break in that specific one-year window.)

Just to throw in a little slim advantage, slim can do bitstream HD audio where the fat can't. However, this is a good deal if you aren't into bitstreaming HD audio.
If you have already purchased a product from Sony Style and find a lower price for that exact same product at any Sony Style venue or Sony authorized reseller within 30 days, contact the Sony Style location where you purchased the product and we will refund you the difference.
Keep in mind that YMMV using the link provided in the quick summary. The banner and fine print contradict each other. When I signed up for mine the banner said $100 too. Regardless $50 or $100 credit, its still a good deal.
do i just click on store link and shop like normal?

Also 5 point for $1 spent on SonyStyle using SonyCard or Playstation Card and the 2nd year extended warranty.

This I did not know. Thanks for the heads up, probably won't be purchasing the warranty. Got a little into the whole warranty thing after my xbox crapped out again, but 2 years should be good. Thanks Selfgovern.

Sorry for being lax with my words SelfGovern. I should have said "worst experience ordering a product from a major corporation ever." I thought that was implied...
