I hope your friend didn't throw away the card yet.. there are a lot of free software for SD card data recovery if she really wanted the pictures back.. worth a try...

Agreed - look at reviews for a bunch of different A-Data SD and SDHC cards on Newegg.com - you'll see more people (and a higher percentage of reviews) reporting their A-Data cards failed than probably any other brand.
Sorry OP, but your deal is not a good one - as others have stated, you can get faster cards cheaper. Here's a deal on a Transcend Class 6 8gb SDHC card that's cheaper and faster than the Sandisk and more reliable than the A-Data:
