Wow. With prices so low, how can they afford to pay you to post on FW?

But they can't afford a full phone number?

Interestingly I'm getting for my elderly Dad, and knew with the economy others may need, but always open to input if there are better deals out there. My father wants MSNBC and his local channels, that's all, simple and sweet.
Agree, here's the ones I wrote down, they told me the following and that they do not publish online, so hopefully others may add to this list: America Movie Channel Bloomburg Food Network HGTV The Learning Center (TLC) Turner Broadcasting MSNBC and Local channels

RFD TV (can add for additional $1.99 per month) Rural Farm – can add now or at a later time
Is this the Dish Essentials package I heard about some time ago? I'm currently subscribing to the Dish Family Pack for $19.99 just to keep my account going. I'd wouldn't mind switching to this. Anybody know if it's available for current customers?

I have found that, in changing service and this goes for Dish and especially Charter, just call and say you want to change to WHATEVER. (always call the number in the promotion ad) These people are for the most part hired telemarketers.
Their previous call could have been to sell (those pills that make that special part BIGGER. And the next, a Viagra order.

I spoke with Tom there and he advised it was available if you have been with them for 2 years.

Call Dish direct first and ask, do it from a phone number they do not have if you are a current user.
Or just call the number provided.
Not knowing what the actual offer is myself. 3 years ago I ordered for my ex in Sacramento, the offer was something like $80 to install and an $80 credit on your first bill, so no install fee. The $80 was paid to the installer. I called a local dealer and he said he will waive the $80 but show you paid it. The first bill had the $80 credit. Apparently the $80 is given to the dealer as a bonus for getting the customer and he still gets $ monthly as long as you subscribe. He was also given his actual time instal fee from Dish.
This plan is particularly good for people who have who have places distant from over the air broadcast sources which is used intemttantly. I my case, I own a farm 550 miles from where I live, which I visit for a week or 2 6 or 7 times a year. I used to be able to pick up a couple of broadcast stations which stopped when they flipped the digital switch.
I came across this because the phone company (Windstream) was pushing a bundle with dsl and dish. I got lucky and spoke with a rep who knew her stuff and not only is this service barebones and cheap, it can be placed on vacation hold when you are not going to be there for an extended time.(Apparently, not all dish packages permit this) Likewise the phone service. I think dish charges $5 a month when on hold. So far its been great. I like MSNBC in the morning, and AMC has some decent movie fare I never had access to before. Plus I can get the locals for weather and such.
I used to keep just phone service year round and periodically set up dialup with PeoplePC. Now I have the phone service, dandy dsl, and a clear tv signal which is shut off when I'm not there. Its too soon to know how much more this will cost annualized compared to my prior arrangement, but I think the net cost is not going to be much more with vastly better connectivity. Plus the rep set it up so that I got the dual tuner console which may be handy sometime in the future. There was a $99 charge for getting the dish service set up but that seemed eminently reasonable.
I will now litter this wordy post with a humorous (I think) side note. The phone account is et up in the name of the farm i.e. "XXXX Farm". I don't get very many phone calls there. Occasionally, I do get calls from Windstream. I always know when its Windstream because the person says " Hello, ia this Mr. Farm". For whatever reason I think this is funnier than heck.
I just called in and talked to a CSR about this. Not a bad deal if you don't need many channels. Plus you can add locals. Also, I have been with Dish for 7 months and this deal WAS available for me, so it is not only if you have been with Dish for 2 years. I am moving a condo for two months and can't get this installed, so temporarily I am switching to this deal, and they are also giving me a $15 credit for the next two months to help off-set the costs for tax.
I just changed to this plan NO problems what so ever. After the rep changed my plan, he transfered me to a retention department where they removed the $5/mo fee forever for not having a home phone line plugged in.
Thanks, OP!!!

Anyone see the last Charlie Chat. It was filled with 45 minutes of some sort of new football package carp they have. I wrote and told them for the few who give a darn about football they should make a special show for them. Not for the masses.

Agree. They've been more flexible on deals for new and existing customers this past year.
I am currently on Welcome Pack for $9.99. We basically subscribe to international channels apart from this.
Look at this link http://www.dishnetwork.com/legal/disclaimers/free_for_all/ and in the swf window, you will find a place to search for content. Enter "Welcome pack" and enter. It shows you that Welcome pack is for $9.99.
