You see un-expired 4 packs of Duracell D batteries for 99cents? Yeah right. You no doubt see the near empty off-branded ones that not only don't last, they commonly leak as well.
I used to work processing returned goods. A lot of stuff was returned with batteries still installed inside. It would commonly sit for 2-4 months before I got to it to inspect and test the items. I can remember 1 or 2 times finding Energizer/Duracell batteries leaking. Out of thousands of items with those brands installed. No-name batteries leaked about 15% of the time if not more.
Stupidly companies put no-name batteries in for in-store demo modes and when they drain super quickly, customers return the items thinking something is wrong.
Get the real thing and get a lot more life and less hassles!
wow, you must be pretty old, nowadays when a mfr. installs the batteries on an item, there is a plastic tab that you have to pull, that blocks the battery terminals from connecting, only once you pull it, then you can turn it on, and start using it; this way the batteries don't get drained while the item is in shipment or sitting on store shelves.
Also, FYI, many 99 cents only stores DO CARRY name brand stuff, including Everlast, Toshiba, or Sony brand batteries. They work just fine, are not expired, and even if they're not quite as fresh as these from Amazon, I think when you can get 40 batteries instead of 8 for the same price, I'm gonna guess the 40 will outlast the eight. Not a bad deal. I have also bought D batteries at Michael's stores using whatever coupon is currently valid -- usually between 40 and 50 percent off -- which actually makes eight of them even cheaper than this -- somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 each.
