I typically use EJunkie, but you can also use eBay. Do a google search and that should get you where you need to be.

Good deal OP. Thanks.

Good price for 2010 version.

If you could live with 2009 versions, usually eBay has them for $10-$25 range.
Also, for some reason, on eBay, you could usually get Home & Business version cheaper than Premier version.
Couple of months back I paid around $20 for 2009 Home & Business.

What does rebate limit of 1 per sku/product/household mean? Does it mean 1 per household, or 1 sku per household (meaning we can get 4 rebates for 4 different SKUs)??

Thanks.

Picked up some DVD-r's (and a stickies filler for $1) had to buy that I needed. FYI, warm i guess... sony 50 pack DVD-r for $14.98 after IR. Its $18.98 at Amazon.

Oh, got the $25 coupon from ejunk!es

Several months ago I tried to use an Office Depot coupon to purchase something at Staples. The cashier would not take the coupon because it had been printed from a computer. Do some Staples stores refuse to accept coupons from EJunkies?

Judging from your experience the answer is yes, yes they do.

Does Quicken still force you to download transactions manually from 90% of bank/CC websites?

Thanks, MaxMojo, but my experience was with a competitor's coupon that I printed from my computer. My question is, what has been the experience of FW members using EJunkie coupons (which I understand are actually Staples coupons?) to purchase items in Staples stores? Thanks.

czarandy said: Does Quicken still force you to download transactions manually from 90% of bank/CC websites? While it use to be common for banks to offer free linking of downloads from your accounts, more and more are charging for this convenience. For instance, Chase wants to charge $9.99 per month. Some are still free. I find that manually downloading is pretty darn fast for me, and it is always free. I would say about half of my accounts I can download directly from within Quicken with no charge, while the other half I have to go to the bank website and do it myself. Like I said, I don't think it is that much work, especially if you get in the routine.

I don't think this is necessarily a fault of Quickens, but more the money grubbing banks.

Yes, some stores refuse to take any Staples coupon if it was printed from a computer, whether it came from eJunkie, eBay or a coupon Staples sent to you, directly. Depends on the manager. They're supposed to take Staples coupons, but they may think those coupons are frauds, so they refuse. Some FWers have complained to Staples Corporate, and got positive results. YMMV.

And they're supposed to take competitors' coupons. The register can actually record which competitor a coupon comes from, so they can keep track of it.

Thanks, VaporGuy.

In for Deluxe. Thanks, OP.

Is it easy to import Microsoft Money data?

Quicken claims they have made it very easy with the new version, haven't read any actual user experiences yet.

Good, I tried 2 years ago and I was stymied. Quicken customer service came across as up yours.

WOW! Can you travel to the future?

How did you try Quicken 2010 2 years when it just came out now.

Hmmm... interesting. Thought Intuit (parent company of Quicken) is done with MIRs... guess not!

I LOVE MSMoney... but am forced to switch. Looked at the free alternative, GNUCash... but don't think it is ready to compete with the commercial products yet... but will keep checking on it.

Been using MSMoney since 1993. Have tons of transactions and don't want to lose them. Hope the new converter lives up to its promises.

I have a Quicken Premier 2007 Not for resale copy, but looks like it won't convert all my MSMoney data. Need to shell out $35 (incl. taxes). Don't feel like using eJunkie's coupons for various reasons.

Thanks OP... will pick up a copy.

As it states in the articles, they eliminated rebate for TurboTax.

Did you even read the those articles other than just looking at the title?

Does Staples accept Paypal? I wanted to use my promotional offer to try BillMeLater and get $10.

Anyone know if it is really worth upgrading Quicken 2007 to Quicken 2010.

bruel said: Anyone know if it is really worth upgrading Quicken 2007 to Quicken 2010.

They changed database config after 2006, so you should be good for a while. The basics have been there forever so, if its not broke...I have 2008 Deluxe. Considered but thought I'll wait another year or so or until its free.

czarandy said: Does Quicken still force you to download transactions manually from 90% of bank/CC websites?
Um, what? 90%? I haven't had to download manually from more than a couple accounts in years, and believe me, I have lots of accounts. As of right now (still using 2009 version) the only accounts I can think of are Macys credit card, Firstrade and Wachovia (who want $10/mo - which reminds me that I need to close the account since it's idle).

Otherwise, the 3-4 dozen accounts I have across dozens of financial institutions get downloaded without human intervention.

I have bank accounts and credit cards in both Canada and the US. Unfortunately, Quicken doesnt allow downloads from Canadian Banks in their database. It seems like I have to buy the US version and the Canadian version, and have two separate files for my finances.

Depends on the bank. If the bank wants to offer Direct Connect - it's a pretty expensive undertaking. Web Connect is much cheaper for the bank. My accounts are about 50-50.

Can I ask, why pay for the deluxe if you could just use the FREE version for basic money management? : )

The free version doesn't do everything the deluxe version does, that's why. If your finances are simple enough to use the free version, go for it. Do you really want Intuit to have access to all of your financial details, though? What's to prevent them from profiling you and selling your name and demographics to third parties for marketing?

As of last year, Quicken had a policy of only supporting a Quicken product for three years. That means no online banking, downloading of info etc after three years. I was forced to upgrade from Quicken Dlx 2006 to 2009 for this reason. You can check the Quicken website to confirm that this policy is still in effect, but I imagine it is.

So, to answer the original question, yes, it's worth the upgrade. And $10 is a very good price, if you can get it.

No Brainer. Thanks, OP! Paid $10 by using $20/$50 and one Expiring $30 Staples Rewards Check.

Just sold the software for $30 on Craiglist and will pocket $30 Rebate (Make sure you choose check option during rebate submission). Total profit $50.-

I would disagree. Some years Quicken releases are so bad that it is better to skip them. I would wait until sufficient sampling of user reviews for 2010 accumulates in Amazon before deciding if it is worth to upgrade.

I recall at least one year when Quicken upgrade was not a good deal even if Intuit paid me to have it, unless I knew in advance that it is so bad that it should not be installed.

Yeah, what a load of crap. Unless the license is for only 3 years then they cant just cut you off after three years. They don't support, well they don't need to support a functioning program. I understand not getting future updates, but to purposely make the program NOT work, isn't legit. I know they did that because they changed database format etc... from the older ones, cause I had to update as well, but if they try that again.

Thanks for the replies.

January'2010 is good timing to close the books on a decade of Quicken use & evaluate moving ending balances over to MicroSoft money or another program.

I have grown disgruntled with Intuit's treatment of their loyal customer base.

Several years ago Intuit stratified their products moving popular features to higher priced versions of their products once in their basic versions. Straight forward business practices of having one good product to meet customer needs once were enhanced year to year, rather stratifying 4 products(Free-basic-deluxe-premiere)forcing their customer base to pay more for features. The bait and switch tactic was deceptive. Intuit's once friendly support became non-existent unless you paid a fee wait in an infinite Que for a NO-HELP line. The latest approach of deliberately not supporting or allowing downloads after 3 years is icing on the cake for Intuit's culture.

News to you... MSMoney is being discontinued. Intuit/Quicken is one of the better choices we have right now. I'm a loyal MSMoney user... So sad that MS axed MSMoney.

IF MS Money is being discontinued, what's going to compete with Intuit to keep their prices reasonable?

world it normally be cheaper later in tax season to buy Quicken together with TurboTax? I think there will be a rebate to buy these two?

I did not have to submit any documentation. I went to www.StaplesEasyRebates.com and submitted the receipt number and the offer number. My validation is now complete so I should see my rebate soon!

cool, just checked mine and saw that validation was complete. sweet!
