BE VERY careful. I bought one that looked similar to this, not sliding though. The handle snapped off in a little over a year. BTW, these cheap "Craftsman" products carry a one year warranty, not the standard lifetime warranty for the hand tools etc...
I have the 10" version of this saw (purchased in May) and it has performed flawlessly. I've used it for stuff ranging from trimwork to 4"x6" beams and it is awesome. I used it for all lumber cutting on a deck I just built.

I've had good luck with Craftsman electric tools, FWIW. No brand that I'm aware of has a lifetime warranty on electric tools. A one year warranty is in line with everybody else...and these are often good deals for the money.
These sliding compound miter saws are an interesting combination of a CM saw and a radial arm saw. I guess you can't turn the saw to be parallel to the guide and cut a long (i.e. 10' long) piece, or can you?
great deal IMO.

I thought only craftsman hand tools (sockets, screw drivers .. etc) have life time warranty. Craftsman electric tools have 1 year warranty like everyone else.

Craftsman is generally a good brand. My friend works at Sears and really likes their products. I am not sure on the warranty on the device.

I'm pretty sure these pivot only 45' left or right, but I may be wrong. I'm not sure what this means: "90 Deg. Capability: 4 x 12-1/4 in."
Does anyone know if you can work this thing somehow to be able to slide plywood sheets or 2x6s through it? If so, I'm ordering one.

Actually, Menard's has a line of power tools (Masterforce) that are very economical but carry a 3-5 year over the counter warranty. Home Depot carries Rigid which offers a lifetime warranty for the original owner. I'm in the market for a compound miter saw and have read a lot of bad reviews on the cheap/plastic parts Craftsman is using on their power tools...I think they may be cutting some corners...it's a shame to see such a solid name become unreliable.
