For the first time in years, PC Treasures has finally put together a software bundle that isn't just a bunch of crappy, no-name, shareware type titles.

I have used it on several computers that I built(at cost)for friends and family.

Most of these folks were happy to only spend $29.99 and get the Corel X4 office package,
which sells for over $100 by itself. ($79.99 for the academic versiom)

One of the problems with building a PC from scratch, is the high price of adding windows OS and software programs.

(and before someone else says it, yes, I know that most commercial software applications have "freeware" alternatives. But not everyone wants the free alternatives)

While not each of these end user's will necessarily utilize each and every program in this "bundle", they were satisfied with the package as a whole. (Mainly, the $29.99 price tag).

It provided their basic software requirements for:

a word processor,
a spreadsheet,
presentations,
backup pkg,
drawing, photos, web page maker,etc.

While the package is aimed at small biz users, several of the programs can be used by lots of non-business types also.

Like the office X4 package, backup program, resume maker, Laplink , drawing pkg, photo pkg, web design pkg,etc.

I'll admit, I didn't read into all the descriptions, but there is not a single application I would put on a 'system' I'd build. In fact, I'd consider 100% of them to be junk/bloatware.

As the title states, this software package targets those in SOHO environment.
(It may or may not also appeal to average consumers).

What comparable products are you using in your home office/small business that aren't junk/bloatware?

Given that this package is a SOHO software bundle, how exactly did you determine the viability
of these programs from the point of view of a SOHO business user?


Obviously, you haven't ever used any of these software apps either.


As a home user, I personally use the X4 office pkg, the stuffit pkg, Nolo/Quicken and serif's products.
Which more than justifies the $29.99 price.

1.The Corel office X4 pkg is comparable to MS's office pkg.
It's PDF abilities: turn documents, spreadsheets and presentations into PDFs saves buying any Adobe
or 3rd party PDF products.

I've used Wordperfect since the days of Wordperfect for DOS. Even though WP has switched ownership a few times,
it is still a solid office package.

2. Stuffit Deluxe - I've used both Winzip and Stuffit over the years.
This version of Stuffit 2009 is a solid compression pkg, with a better features than Winzip.

3. Quicken Legal Business Pro 2009 - Another legal program from Nolo; a leader in DIY legal products.
If you have a home business, this product provides decent legal insight, forms and "how to" info.

4. Serif products - A company in the UK that produces decent desktop publishing, photo, drawing, web design software.
Not as well known in the US, but not something I'd throw into the "junk/bloatware" category.

Laplink used to be awesome. haven't used it in about a decade though. These days you can get a lot of high quality freeware from the likes of google and download.com, so i'm not sure if any of this stuff people would use.

While there are a lot of applications which I would consider "fillers", there are a handfull of true values, if you need them. The Act! 2009 alone would be enough to justify this.

Great post. The Corel software is worth the money alone. Although some programs can be downloaded for free, it is always nice to have the program provided to you in one easy place so that the time saved looking for the same can be worth the price when it is as low as this offering.

Thanks OP for the post. I think there are several programs that are worth the price. I especially agree with
AuctionHugh "If the roboform is the registered pro version, this alone pays for the whole package." I've used it for years.

Green for you OP. IF anyone needs ACT or Peachtree (which also comes from Sage so may play nicer with ACT than say, QuickBooks ?)this is a great deal. Also, as mentioned above, Nolo products are pretty high quality and you dont' get any of them for $29 on their own.

Oh Freakin' No !!!

Newegg has gone from "AUTO NOTIFY" to "DEACTIVATED ITEM".
(DEACTIVATED usually means Newegg is dropping the item from their store)

Looks like this will not be carried by Newegg anymore.

The package label did not provide info on the roboform, so I went ahead and installed it.

Unfortunately it is not the pro version.
(There is a link provided within the roboform menu, to use to upgrade to the pro version).

I installed the Serif products and they all appear to be full versions (not SE or lite)

I'm using the Corel X4 office is the regular, standard version.
(difference between standard and pro is that pro includes a database comparable to MS access)


I am using the Stuffit deluxe 2009 and it is the full, deluxe version.
