Office Depot has Windows 7 (which comes out this Thursday 10/22) starting at $119.99. This week's circular says that you can also get $1000.00 in Free After Rebate software with the purchase of Windows 7. You also get a $300 coupon book, free installation, and free online tutorials. Unfortunately the circular doesn't give any indication of which software titles are FAR. If anyone can determine which software products are FAR, please post your findings here.

Ug; more rebates...

Rebates = fail

OD rebates are much slower these days.

I'd rather see what you can get if you buy a new computer with w7

software titles FAR: Y A W N!!

I mean, really, how many anti-virus programs does one need?

These are all the same titles they tend to do with the year end tax software deals. Wonder if they will be the same rebates. I might do all the ones that are only one rebate to cash out my rewards.

Wonder if the coupon book excludes technology.

Does sofeware purchase qualify ink recycling program?

Yes but you can't pay with ink rewards. Need to pay with cash/credit.

Wow. Office Depot must know something about Windows 7 to offer seven different security software packages in that list. That tells me something about Windows 7.

Only if this thread was for Staples.... I could cash in some $$$ on my gift card....

Good lord, $1000?

siraloz said: Good lord, $1000?
Yeah, I want to have $1000 out floating around in rebates about now... Especially when many of the programs are essentially worthless

I lost about $350 in rebates on tax sodtware this yewar. Late on mailing, etc etc. Just too busy doing taxes anyway to do revates ....

Only buying what I want and need going out. I'll find better ways to get what I do use, too, For example, I got 5 copies of Webroot Spybot for $3 each at Dell, direct download, no rebates. Paid $15 total for 5, much nicer route - no risk!

The $1000 worth of rebates are significant if you need to make purchases to meet the purchase requirement for ink recycling. You buy the softwares and do the rebates THE SAME DAY following the instructions by the letter.

Yes, M$ to offer its own security solution, making all those software absolete. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/958020/

.....M$ to offer its own security solution.....
Don't do it.
My laptop was infected, but useable.
Downloaded MS anti-virus/rootkit/whatever, and installed & started scan.
Software froze-up the machine and when I re-booted, Windows was corrupted so badly I had to re-install.
PHOOEY !

I put every antivirus I can get my hands on on my computer. That way I can be sure I'm getting the full spectrum of protection.

You don't understand. That was the ultimate virus removal procedure. By requiring a complete clean install, it made sure that your hard drive was totally free of virus or malware.

Office Max has in their ad that you save $195 on certain software (Photoshop Elements 8 was the only thing I was primarily interested in) and says NO REBATES, but then it doesn't really say that the software listed is free. Anyone know any details on the $195 in savings they're actually offering?

Rather deal with that than $1000 in rebates from OD.

I don't know either but you're probably looking at half price on these items with no rebate versus free at OD with rebate.

Great way to boost your annual ink recycling limit if you know what I'm talking about.

Then, under "Find a Mail-In Savings Form" where it states "Product Type" select "Win 7/MS Office" and then click on "Search".

Wish the damn OM ad had told us more about the "savings" on their software. Really would like Photoshop Elements 8 free.

Sorry Elements is $70 at OM, most of the offers seem to be about half price. Here's the OM link.

As for OD this deal appears to run till 11/19 so someone (not named me) go out and buy all this stuff and report if there are any issues with doing any of the rebates (original UPC required for two rebates etc.)

OD has a nice quad core with W7 for $499 after GC.

I used OD ink rewards last year to pay part of the cost for software and other tech items. Has anyone been denied this year buying software and other tech items using OD ink rewards to pay part or all of the costs? So far this year, the only thing I had been using ink rewards for is on office supplies but I was planning on trying to buy some tech items (digital cameras, computers and software) with rewards this December for the holidays. Should I expect any problems using my OD rewards to purchase these types of products?

BUMP this question, I'm a new OfficeDepot ink recycler and am also curious!!

You can purchase digital cameras, computers and software, and pretty much everything else in the store, with OD Worklife Rewards (of which ink recycling rewards are subset). According to the Terms and Conditions of the program:

Reward Cards may be redeemed on purchases of merchandise only, which excludes any type of prepaid gift, merchandise, debit, phone or service cards.

- OD Worklife Rewards Terms and Conditions

Payment with Rewards does not impact rebates at all.

What I think JamesTKirk was stating was that purchases with Rewards do not count toward the annual purchase amount for ink recycling. While I understood this to be the case as well, there is some question about this as others have reported receiving Rewards based on purchases made with Rewards.

Yes that is what my post meant.

I'd like to try this in the first quarter. Won't try it in the fourth quarter though when I'd possibly lose my rewards.

I had no problems purchasing AMEX gift cards with my rewards. YMMV big time.

judicska said: I had no problems purchasing AMEX gift cards with my rewards. YMMV big time.Interesting. I bought a normal OD gift card using my rewards gift card, that way it did not have the the short expiration time. No problems doing so, of course it was a while ago.

The Windows 7 upgrade rang up $113.99 for me. The Norton rebate seems to be requiring the original UPC from Windows 7.

That looks good. The form from the register reads, Enclose the original UPC from Norton AV and any Windows 7 software or Microsoft Office. Photocopies will not be accepted.

I'll make sure to use the pre-submit form.

A couple of the others also wanted the Windows UPC but said copies were OK.

The Morpheus by Smith Micro states they want the registration card filled out for the rebate.
