SmartBargains always overestimates their thread counts. More like 400 or less. And it may be poorer Egyptian cotton made in Pakistan or elsewhere. You need to spend $200 or more for the real thing.

Some manufacturers are for example twisting two strands of fiber together and using it to create a 200 thread count sheet, but calling it a 400 thread count sheet.

"Seven out of eight sheets tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute flunked thread count tests. There are telltale ways to spot an exaggerated count. The tip-off is, a really high thread count is really, really expensive," Huddy said. "You don't get a 1,500 thread count sheet for $149.99 a set.

thanks op! however, for some time i had problem getting the 40.98 to show up after -$40 discount. instead it was showing $49.99 for some odd reason. so i had to remove and add couple of times for the right price to show up. and CB went through with reward CC card so thank you again.

still, $38 after CB is on par with Overstock.com's sheet sets (where i usually order from)

I'll give you green for telling the truth. More marketing BS designed to trick the customer.

Realistically a 220-250 thread count is a very soft sheet after laundering. I've owned true 320 thread count sheets and they cost ~$80 each for the flat and fitted. Very soft, almost satiny but they ripped very easily due to the very thin threads needed to do that thread count.

Besides extra threads twisted in to jack up the thread count, some bond two pieces of fabric together and then double the thread count, and some just out and out lie about it.

Save your money and get a good value, buy good quality brand name sheets around 250 thread count or even a little less. They'll last a long time and be very comfortable to sleep on. Just dont go below 200. Anything over 300 that costs under ~$80-100 is playing games.
