It seems silly, if you use AA - D adapter in the 3D flashlight with 3 AA rechargeable batteries, I believe most people like me who stop buying non-rechargeable will do.
Then what's the point? unless people like the feeling of the big stick of 3D in their hand.

I purchased the Maglite Package at Costco last week and it works great! The bulb seems to be even more effective than other LED's offered on the market today.

The 3 watt is the rating/classification of the LED.. Doesn't signify the lumen output.
As for D batteries versus AA batteries... both are 1.5 volts but the D battery will have less internal resistance and thus be able to provide a greater current output at 1.5V. So a D battery could run an LED brighter and longer than a AA battery. The D-shell adapters that people use with AA rechargable batteries are not intended for high current/peak draw applications.

Soar
Only if your market doesn't include online retailers. I've got one cell pocket flashlights that are brighter than the 3D Maglight . . . and the LED I dropped into MY 3D Mag would blow you away! Come back when Costco is selling the Rebel version, the one that's $30+ in hardware stores now.
