Thanks OP. I'm in for it, when it become available. Regarding panda products:
Panda also makes a great anti-rootkit detector (which happens to be very reasonably priced; as in FREE). panda anti-rootkit detector write up About a week ago a client had an infection that went undetected by the AV product and the anti-spyware programs they were running. (there was a problem, detected by an IDS, that prompted my scan of their computer). I scanned the PC in question with a few anti-rootkit programs (sophos, Trend Micro, sunbelt and panda). While none of these anti-rootkit programs detected anything initially,(AKA a "quick-scan) when I set panda anti-rootkit to do an "INDEPTH**" scan (**required a reboot) it found about 20 something occurrences, of 2 different rootkit programs. The 2 programs were hidden in the registry and within windows. Since the 2 rootkits it detected and removed were quite new (AKA in-the-wild), panda gets a 2 thumbs up from me.

NOTE: if you visit the write up page in my above link, the initial date at the top of the page shows a date of April 2007. New Panda Anti-Rootkit - Version 1.07 27 April 07 04:15 Don't worry about the anti-rootkit s/w being out of date. One of the 1st things panda anti-rootkit does is to go out and check for a new versions (as long as you have an internet connection available to the PC you are running the scan upon) |
