Folks, I own an Archos 605 Wifi, 160GB and I am quite happy with it. In fact, I really wasn't looking for another option until I found out that the new Archos 5 Internet Tablet came with Android, an OS that I have been really interested in trying. To make a long story short, I bit the bullet and got one today from Amazon:
The price for the Archos 5 Internet Tablet with Android, again, is $389 and free second day shipping if you are an Amazon Prime user.
I looked around for a better price but have yet to find it.
Don't get me wrong, this post is mostly geared to "on the fence" shoppers that are looking for a movie viewer that can do a quite a bit more than just play movies, and definitely not taking shots at the folks that own Apple products (my wife being one of them). I have absolutely nothing against Apple products as they serve their own purpose and many people like them, but for the price of a 32 GB Touch, I get 160Gb of space, don't have to convert all my Divx into MP4 and a get a larger screen. Again, the Android OS is a plus that I am looking forward to using.
Anyway, I have read a few reviews regarding it freezing up out of the box. If I am unlucky enough to get one of these, I have read that the issues are easily fixable via a firmware update, so truly, I am not worried.
Like I said, this is a nice player for those who want to look at options other than the Touch....
After returning the one from Amazon, I will purchase the one suggested by Logician and humbly apologize for posting a not-so-hot deal in the Hot Deals section...You live, you learn...
I heard that the software is buggy; download the firmware patch from Archos ASAP.
Also, note that the 32GB (flash) version is the same price but smaller - I think 10mm thick for 32GB vs 20mm thick for 160GB.
Lastly, since Android Market isn't on this device you'll need to get the .apk files from another source (Web browser?) to install android apps.
Thanks for the info. Will keep in mind...

Ohh, wow, I didn't know they made one of these devices using Android. >_< if i didn't own a Tmobile MyTouch i would probably look at one. And yes the .apk can either be found online, or you can transfer it from your computer to the device, since it looks like it hook up through USB or a sd card. if you search there might be places to find .apk files.

$10 off retail price on a $400 item. Not a hot deal, that's the regular price.
Thank you Namlook...understood. I thought it would be hot since it was one of the first of these players/tablets to carry Android as an OS.
Thank you Logician for showing a heck of a much lower price...I will cancel my order and will order from there...
I have read the reviews. The first batch of these came out with bugs that were fixed by a firmware update. Did Archos drop the ball? Absolutely, but seem to have fixed the issue with the update.
