Newegg has the Recertified: HP MediaSmart EX475, Windows Home Server w/ AMD Sempron 1.8GHz 512MB DDR2 1TB HDD installed (two open bay), 4 USB & 1 eSATA expansion port, for a low $269.99 after Coupon Code: HP1X191 (Exp 10/22). Free Shipping. Tax in CA, NJ, TN, PR.
NO MENTION of warranty!! Anybody care to shed some light on what it is?
Looks like the 1TB HDD is 2x500. That sort of cools the deal for me since I'd have to chuck them both. I really want 4x1 or 4.1.5. Good deal if you need a little less storage, though. Thanks OP.
Great deal on a good server. It's selling for $459.99 at HPshoppping here
This comes with 2 500GB hard drives, what this means is you can setup the 2nd drive for duplication (data protection in english), right out of the box.

Not with WHS. It uses a technology called "Drive Extender" to do replication and specifically warns NOT to do the "traditional" forms of redundancy. More info here.
(BTW - a lot more FWers than you expect do know about RAID and data redundancy, but thanks anyway for trying to clarify it).

Viva La duplication ! (Those crazy French) ROFLOL (rolling on floor laughing out loud in English)

If duplication is on for a Shared Folder (which is the default on multi-disk Home Server systems and not applicable to single disk systems) then the files in that Shared Folder are duplicated

And here is a step-by-step description how to install a 2gb RAM stick:
from the 512 MB Ram specs, this is the first generation of the model: First Generation
The second generation comes with 2 GB installed and some more features: Second Generation
I'm still thinking about getting it for the price, but be aware if you are reading reviews whether they are reviewing the first generation (2007) or the second one (2009-ish?) so you're not surprised.
I purchased the EX470 from CC just before they closed only because I wanted to use a GC and they had nothing else that was really any good. But I really don't know too much about the EX470. Is the only purpose of this to use it as a NAS and for backups or can it be used for other things?

I installed windows home server on an old Compaq desktop. I use WHS primarily for:
- automated backups of 3 desktops - sharing software installation apps, driver software, and e-books - streaming movies to my PS3 via PS3 Media Server - I also have Microsoft SQL Server installed on the WHS. I'm studying to get certified
You can also use it to do the following:
- share videos, music, and photos across your home network - serve as a print server - access your files when you are away from home
