Good deal if you're not in CA, NJ, or TN cause of tax. You can get it after Bing CashBack on eBay for $183shipped--This deal is like $185 for me in CA. I'm waiting for the $150 or less price point.
Edit: I think it take 2TB drives also since there is a seller on eBay selling the SS4200-E w/ 8TB capacity.

I am undecided between this and Recertified: HP MediaSmart EX475, Windows Home Server w/ AMD Sempron 1.8GHz 512MB DDR2 500GB SATA HDD installed (three open bay), 4 USB & 1 eSATA expansion ports from Newegg for $299. HP has copy of WHS included, 2x500GB HDD. Any suggestion on which one better?

i have the HP and the upgrade to 2gb ram is simple and adds to performance of the box definately. if u add the whs license to the intel it costs more doesnt it? with less room for expansion? i have 1 500gb drive in the HP and 3 1tb drives for data shares and it works well streaming movies music photos to PCs and the XBMC in the living room.
HP has said recently it would provide the next service pack of support to these devices as well as the new ones. They originally intended to not include these models in the newer pack upgrades

Hmmm, what kind of problems have you had. I have only had mine a month, but the build quality is excellent (drive cages are steel, not plastic like on the HP), dead quiet (unlike the HP), and the user forum (actually the Scaleo home server forum, which is the same hardware) shows very few problems. I upgraded the CPU and memory without a hitch, and it runs WHS just fine.
I like it in most ways better than the HP as a piece of hardware. HOWEVER, it does not come with WHS, which will cost you $100, and comes with no hard disks. Once you add that in it loses much of its cost advantage. The HP also comes with a lot of extra stuff that HP added to WHS...and unlike most manufacturer add ins, its good stuff.
If you use the original Linux operating system on the SS4200-E you have to add drives 2 at a time....but WHS will let you use 1 to 4 drives.

I think it is all relative. I already have the hard drives and a copy of WHS, I just want to get my 6TB WHS install out of a VM and onto some low power hardware.
So yes if you have to purchase hard drives and don't have a copy of WHS (Technet, MSDN,etc) then I agree that the HP would be a better deal value wise.
