I just got the coupon in the mailed disk I received from Netflix today. I wasn't aware that the player was also internet connected as well. Makes me wish I really had the $100 for the unit. Time to scrape together some cash - unless anyone here can say this isn't a good deal or that the Insignia brand is bad or.......

I bought the previous INSIGNIA NS-BDLIVE01 BD-Live ready player when it was on sale for $99 earlier this year. (The NS-BDLIVE01 is similar to the cheaper model above but does not provide Netflix streaming) Though load times are a bit slow I've had no problems playing many Blu-Ray discs. This looks to be a solid deal for the new models.
I also bought the Insignia NS-BDLIVE01 for $99, but had to return it. The unit would interfere with signal reception to my TV. Whenever the Blu-Ray was in use, I would completely lose over the air signal on certain channels, and my DVR would record static. I videotaped my TV showing perfect reception, and then immediately going to static upon powering up the Blu-Ray. Best Buy graciously refunded my money. I bought a Sony S-360 on special for about $149, which hasn't interfered with my over-the-air reception at all. Also of note, the Insignia (at least the previous model) runs very hot. The Sony does not heat nearly as much.
I'm not trying to thread crap, but am relaying my past experiences with this brand. As I understand, these units are made specifically for Best Buy by a Chinese factory and contrary to some Internet gossip are not rebranded from any of the major electronics manufacturers. If you buy one, make sure it does not interfere with your DVR.
I read carefully all the text on the Netflix coupon I received yesterday and there was no mention of the need to have a Reward zone account.

I'm sorry, it's been too long since I've been active on these boards, but I can't find how this deal works. Can someone spell it out plainly what I need to get the player for $99. I clicked the link but it only took me to the reward zone homepage.
When you go the the rewardszone site, you login and from there you will get information about the offer and be able to print the in store coupon from there.

Thanks to all who answered. Though I have a reward zone card, I've never used the online thing. Guess now is as good a time as any to activate it.
Farmer said: er3456, how was the picture quality of the Insignia comparing to the Sony S-360 that you have now? Thanks.
I don't remember a discernible difference in picture quality for Blu-Ray, the upscaling of standard DVDs looked better on the Sony. Also, the Sony was quieter, and much more responsive to commands from the remote control. I remember being frustrated that there was a split second-delay between hitting pause or skip on the Insignia remote and the player actually doing it. The Insignia also didn't feel very sturdy. It took a bit of troubleshooting to get the audio to work properly with my older 5.1 surround receiver. I had to toggle the Insignia's settings to "Legacy Audio Format" before I could get 5.1 surround.
I'm not outright endorsing the S-360 either. It has a slow boot up time (which can be lessened by enabling Quick Start Mode, but that uses more power). It also does not have Netflix streaming. I bought it because 1) it did not interfere with my other equipment 2) it was only $149 and 3) I could stream Netflix off my TiVo.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the direct link. Still waiting on my confirmation email from BestBuy.
Love this price, I guess the next question is - how good is this player for BD? I'm trying to research a low price solution and even the big name players low-end models; Samsung, Panasonic, etc all have big issues with not playing new (or old) BDs, slow to respond to remote commands, etc....
Thanks so much er3456, your answers are very helpful for me.

I just picked up the $99 basic model at my local best buy and am currently watching/streaming Heroes in HD. The video quality when watching Netflix is as good if not better than my xbox 360 and there is no loud fan noise like the xbox. I haven't watching any blu rays yet, but I will test out a few later and post if there are issues.
FWIW, the player was $179 in store and the manager had to do a price adjustment to bring it down to $99 with coupon. I also considered the more expensive player that was $50 more that had wifi, but I thought this model had a better looking front pannel.
Anyone know if this is either region-free or can be unlocked? We're moving back to Scotland in about 6 months, and I'd like a Blu-Ray player now. If it can't be unlocked, I guess I'll just bide my time waiting for a cheap one that can be, or wait until I move. Thanks.

It's very good that the coupon explicitly listed the regular price of $149 so they HAD to do the price adjustment instead of $50 off a convenient $30 price increase. Does anyone know when they fiddled with the price?

I think $179 is the regular price. It has been onsale previously at $149. The wifi version is currently onsale at $199, and with the coupon is $149.
BTW, I played a couple of BRs and to my naked eye without doing A/B comparisons, the picture quality is comparable to my PS3. Also, the remote control is responsive. Pausing, fast forwarding, skipping chapters is snappy and quick. One thing I've noticed is that the drive mechanism is a bit noisy when first loading the disc and during intensive seeking, but not an issue once the movie is actually playing.
That's the rub. The coupon states the regular price is $149. It also states the regular price of the wireless version is $199. But in store and on the website the first one is $179. The wireless version is currently on sale for $199 but the regular price is listed as $249. It was amusing that when I went to the store I didn't see either model and the sales associate said the only Insignia brand they had in stock was some other model they had prominently displayed. However I went to the computer section and did a search and saw they were in stock. The did have stacks of both, however they were not in the player section and stacked so you wouldn't see them looking from the front of the section. The associate apologized for not knowing they were there. Whatever.
I too picked up this player today. First impressions are good picture, quick load time, and very responsive. Negative is the player produces a high-pitch whine occasionally during movie playback (mute the tv/stereo and listen to the player as it plays a movie to see what I mean). The loudness during seeking/menu navigation doesn't bother me, but this random high-pitch noise during playback could be annoying. I will try another disc later tonight and see if it does it on all discs or just this particular one.

okay FWers...here's a deal that goes along with this. I just returned from my local Best Buy in San Bruno, CA. I bought the wireless Insignia for the $149.99 after coupon and stacked with an internet special they're running for Transformers 2 on Blu-Ray. So, all in all, I got the wireless Blu-Ray player with the Transformer's 2 Blu-Ray for $169.31 out the door after tax. The link for the Transformers deal is below as is my receipt scan. Of course this is YMMV, but I honestly don't think it'll be a problem, since it's an advertised deal (Transformers deal) online for online purchase or in-store pick-up. Regardless if you do this deal or not, the purchase for the Insignia Blu-Ray player is B&M (in-store) only.
Just to make sure everything went smoothly, when I went in, I presented a print out of the online deal and also presented the $50 coupon. A manager had to come over and do some override, but no questions were asked.
The player is on sale for everybody and also online for $99 next week.

I tried the wireless model, got online with it but barely, could not stream any movies from Netflix. Took it back, got the cheaper one and I'm now watching streaming movies no problem. Pretty pleased with it for $99. Thanks for a good deal!

Wow, they are really playing a bit dirty. No problem with the same sale later, but note on that ad, the "regular price" is $149 unlike the $179 it is now. Wonder how many reward members didn't fight the price descepancy? Of course the coupon expires Saturday, so no way to double up on that Sunday Monday sale.

wireless work flawlessly here... Just make sure you choose the correct encryption for your network setup. Then download the new firmware (the new one appears to detect encryption method automatically)... Love mine.. Watched a few episodes of the office streaming hd and looked great.
I also got both deals $50 off the player and transformers 2 for $4.99 when you buy the wireless one.

Wow, thanks for this. I was about to sign up for a reward zone card and pick up the non-wifi version today or tomorrow. Instead I think I'll wait until Sunday and get it without the card.
Sign up for Reward Zone anyway. You'll earn points and still have access to deals.

For the posters who were streaming the Office and Heroes wirelessly - where are you streaming from? I assume it's not Netflix, so I'm wondering if it streams Hulu or other sites like that.

Thanks.
This unit only supports streaming from Netflix, so yes it was from Netflix (which has had HD streaming for certain titles for awhile now).
The wireless version is no longer avaialbe for online purchase and it is up to $250 + sh. Was a good deal but I am sure in the next month or so it should come back.
