Hmm, reviews claim the firmware has some kind of adware from LG which when you close the drive door with no CD in the drive it launches a web browser and takes you to some LG website to buy more stuff. "Bluebirds" they call it.
However, newer reviews post this link which removes that software via LGs own firmware update: http://www.lge.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile.jsp?customerModelCode=GH22NS50
Still, how did they think people wouldn't get mad at this?
Just an fyi if you get a drive with the older firmware installed. Green because the deal is decent with the free 4GB flash.

I have 2 LG drives myself. Typically the first thing I do after installation is to update the firmware so I've never had a chance to observe this behavior before the update. After the update, there is no such problem.
but how would a firmware do this to the OS? Or is it installed with the software that came with the drive? Some people make it sound like it's something they installed with the drive.
so it runs the autorun in windows. crappy feature but the user also does not HAVE to install it. obviously the new firmware will remove that "feature" but the user shouldn't have installed it if they didn't want it anyway.
us said: come on now, it's not even possible for a firmware on a dvd drive to launch a web browser. Let's get real here...
Sure it is. All it has to do is "fake" the insertion of a CD, with an included AUTORUN.INF file, whenever the CD tray is closed with no disc inside. Perfectly doable.
