From an email I recieved today through my PA office:
In recognition of your service to our country, all veterans and active duty Military personnel are invited to eat free at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar Restaurants this Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.
As you may recall, Applebee's launched a pilot program last year on Veterans Day offering free entrees to Military service personnel and veterans. Because the response was so overwhelmingly positive, Applebee's is extending the invitation throughout the country this year.
We would appreciate your help in spreading the word. Please help us share details across your various communication channels.
All U.S. veterans and active duty Military with proof of current or former Military service will eat free at all Applebee's nationwide on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.
Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform.
I thought the DD-214 missing was strange, too. Any vet should be very used to using that as proof of service.

By the way, if you didn't serve and try to scam a free meal out of this one, I hope you get food poisoning or at least get your a** kicked.

Cool, I'm gonna use my mini laminated Crossing the Line card from 1992. Shellback for Life! btw, it's personally signed by Davey Jones and Neptunus Rex. My DD-214 is locked in a safe deposit box somewhere.

Fatwallet is one thing, and we've all scammed coupons and things like that. Attempting to get a free meal when someone didn't serve is rather pathetic. If someone does feel the need to put on a uniform to get a meal, make sure there's something to allow prosecution under the Stolen Valor Act.
I don't have ANY of these items (my photos were lost) but I served in the Military and I have my DD-214. According to their rules, I wouldn't be eligible for a free meal.

If you brought in your DD-214, I would be VERY surprised if they denied you, especially since you could have them ask any of the Military folks there about the form.
They will definitely take a 214 at most places. Heck, most of them will probably take your word. They don't want to take something like this promotion and possibly turn it into bad press if they deny someone.
They did this last year and I took advantage of it. Just remember one thing. This does not include any drinks, app. or desert. So it is a way that they will get something, obviously you will get something to drink but free is still free and a good deal!

* U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card * U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card * Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) * Veterans Organization Card (i.e., American Legion and VFW) * Photograph in uniform * Wearing uniform * DD214 * Citation or Commendation

I would think that veterans would rather eat food that's better than what they were served while in the Military , don't you?
1st time I knew Applebee's did this, so I'll be hitting them up next week!
I went to the Golden Corral a couple times past few years, and mine gets packed! call your local and see if they offer lunch also? one of my local ones did it one year because there was literally an hour wait line outside for dinner that day.
to the person doesn't have any Military ID, might try going to a VA and get a card. you'd be surprised how many places give a 10% discount, just show em a VA card and it's as good as a AAA discount some hotels, auto stores etc...

According to the Golden Corral official website, they are offering a free meal for veterans this coming Monday instead of tonght.
Got mine. I got there at 10:55 and there was not a line. By 11:30 there were people waiting out the door... It was only the Entree but it's the thought that counts. I wish more places did this. The Veterans need more acknowledgment on their sacrifices since most people today take it for granted.
My wife and I ate here with my meal being free. The place was decked out and there were wall-to-wall veteran's. There was over a 1 hour wait, but we sat at the bar without waiting at all.
TY OP and TY Applebees!
Most importantly, thank you to all the vets and their families for their service and sacrifices.

Went - Be sure to take your money! Not a "Free" dinner, only free entre (out of choice of 6). They charged $2.29 for ice tea, and $.99 for fixings for baked potato. Golden Corral is FREE, anything and/or every thing on menu, including drinks, dessert.
