This is a solid unlocked smartphone for $150. I got it for the same price on Amazon about 4 months ago. I am actually thethering (connected to my laptop) with it as I post this.
I just bought this phone a few months ago to take on a trip to London for about $190. Once there, I walked to some internet cafe near my hotel and bought a sim card with about $30 worth of time on it. It only cost about $.10 to call a US number. The call quality was the best ever I've had with a cell phone. It was just as loud and clear as a land line. Upon coming back to the US, I signed up for Google Voice and make free long distance calls using Gizmo5 over my home wifi and use T-Mobile's Pay As Yu Go for when I'm away so I'm not tied to one cell phone service. provider. It's a shame there aren't as many choices here was there was in the UK.
Anyone familiar with Symbian? I have been using windows mobile for the past two years and with WinMo 6.1 I have threaded text messaging..if I can get that with Symbian as well as outlook contact sync I think I'll jump on this deal. If not, I'll wait till I can get my hands on an Andriod phone.
Can you please let me know the setup you have with google voice and gizmo. What kind of SIP settings do you use? You can PM me if you like.
I am using the same phone and very happy with it. I have Garmin XT software installed with it(and an external bluetooth GPS receiver). I also used it in my recent trips to Europe and Asia.
I bought this for about the same price in the summer. It can sync seamlessly with Outlook (contacts, calendar, to-do list) - that's something I value most. The down side is that you pretty much have to buy a cable and a Mini SD card.

Nokia Contacts app and Profimail/built in email/a bunch of other email clients all do what you want
I have an E71 and love it, and bought an E63 for my wife to use on T-Mobile's pay as you go. It works great - she mostly wanted the full keyboard for texting, but the battery that lasts three days is certainly a great feature too.

I am using it with the $20 mediamax plan (unlimited + 200 sms) . So, yes. You need some kind of data plan, but you do not have to get a smartphone plan. You can use it with the $15 unlimited plan. AT&T cannot tell if it's a smartphone or not. Since it's not one of their phones.

You need to subscribe to a data plan if you plan on using data via the wireless network. You can just get the $15 data plan. Of course, you can just use the WiFi. In that case you do not need a data plan.
