The main question is what IOS version is on it. I doubt you could use smartnet with it.

no its not. Cisco doesnt make a 2900 series that is 10mb. Its 100mb with 4 gbic uplink/crossover/passthrough ports that support its new SFC GBIC modules.

Here is a bit from Cisco's website

Why wold you put smartnet on something you paid $60 for?

I should add that you can't smartnet it as it was EOL in May 2003. No TAC support after Oct 2008.

Are these actual Cisco OEM switches? Lots of "fake" Cisco gear floating around out there.

I dont know much about Surplus Computers so I'm asking. If legit these are robust/reliable switches.

Actually the 2948G has:
- 48 x 10/100 base-T
- 2 x GBIC slots (not useable unless you purchase GBICS)

The last IOS for this was a few years ago.

Just wondering why you need 48 ports?
Is this for a business? If so, I would want to stay away from Surplus Computer.
A friend of mine purchased a server, but no admin password to get in at bootup.

I wouldn't buy used switches again. I had two Cisco Catalyst 24-port switches, bought used. They both died on me.

If you need a rackmount switch for data center, considering how much you spend on the monthly colo fees, it really isn't worth the risk to get a used switch to save a hundred dollars or two.
