There's a negative review about the zones. It appears that the gist of it is that if I want to use speakers in other zones or rooms of the house then I can't have 7.1 surround sound in the TV room. That kind of sucks and does seem misleading.

Pros: not many pros, well it can play internet radio if you want to buy Serius.

Cons: I had the 706 before and it went bad and unfortunately i did not buy it from an authorized dealer so Onkyo said basically haha your problem. So I bought this one and it is horrible it is only a third of the power!! How can a 130 watt receiver be less powerful than a 100 watt 706?? Dunno either but it was,and this is the real kicker,,, are you ready... THEY advertise 3 zones, well unless you buy and AMP forget it, because they installed a front wide and high terminal, which who really has three sets of front speakers and a center? and as for your surround it is zone 2 and surround back is your zone 3!! Thats right folks so your 7.1 takes up all the terminals except for the left over two front ones no one will ever use. for zone 2 you will lose speakers 4 and 5 if you use zone 3 you will lose speakers 6 and 7, ALWAYS NOT JUST WHILE ZONE 2 OR 3 IS ON!! SO the 706 is a better reciever in my opinion because you had SEPERATE terminals for zone 2, and still had 7.1 when zone 2 is off!

Other Thoughts: Onkyo should have thought about that, i mean come on, hasn't every installer been complaining about more available terminals, so they finally do it and give it to front wide and high!! We need zone 2 and 7.1!!! why if we are paying a grand can we not have both?????

nothing new, onkyo's zone two has been their surround speakers for a while now. Its just a case of someone not researching their purchase before buying it

Well, it was new to me. It won't affect my decision since I'll never use zones, but it will help when I recommend products for others.

Newegg has it for $749.00 with free shipping and free I-Pod Dock. I hate I pods so if you sell it on Amazon for $89.99 you end up with a $649 final price. Can't beat that. If you are not a techie and just want the sound quality then get the TX - 807 for $549 from Amazon. Have best buy Price match and save on the shipping and make it easier to return if there is an issue. These receivers seem to have issues 1 in 50.
