From the Manufacturer
Replace filter every six months. Filter life may vary depending on use and local water conditions. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. Systems that are certified for cyst reduction may be used on disinfected water that may contain filterable cysts. Individuals requiring water of certain microbiological purity should consult their physician.

I must warn you there is something wrong with their manufacturing process. All filters like this need a gallon or two so to clear it out and get past the odd flavors...with this Pur filter many are reporting the odd flavor is not going away until a week or two after.

I found out the hard way...and just returned it after a week and instead got the a factory filter which I might add is NSF certified. Pur have only compared their filters to NSF's contaminant ratings, not actually certified.

got this filter last month to replace orig. one in refrig. that was over 7 monthe old. water still tasted great but has sucked since new one has gone in. was hoping it would drop the bad taste by now. hope it gets better.

This is only $2 off. I should probably replace the one in my fridge, but I won't. It's been 6 years and the water still tastes great
