Sorry but as far as I know, It's not possible on NFL.com radio as it's a live stream. You are correct when you pause and play again it catches up with live audio.
Just googled it, came across following AM/FM radio device where you can actually sync up the audio with TV video.It's a regular AM/FM radio with delay option: http://www.sportsyncradio.com/sport-sync-how-it-works.html

Cool product. Too bad there is no aux. in to the radio, so you could run cable from computer audio out to the radio, then pause.
I guess you COULD buy an FM transmitter to send computer audio to FM channel and then use a radio like this for that...
