No offense to OP, but yeah they should just give free wifi all the time considering the slop they call 'food'. Last time I at there the McGurgles were upon me within a half-hour...needless to say that will be the last time I eat that crap.
PS - Thanks for all the red, folks...makes me feel it was a job well done.

Last time == yesterday? Don't be afraid; you can tell us.

Eating a lard laden cow with 10000 gms of fat, listening to screaming kids and the drive thru speaker while surfing the net. Life just doesn't get any better than that.
The store location link does not say whether it is free or not.
If you want to eat healthy, their salad is quite good. You can ask for water instead of soft drink too. Sometimes I wonder why the salad alone cost more than a combo meal though.
Wow, what a thread... Last time I checked, this was still a free country (enjoy it while it lasts), and you have complete choice about whether to patronize McDonald's or not.
The quality/taste of their food is debatable, but I don't see them scamming or ripping people off?? They charge what millions think is a fair price for what they provide. When they offer healthy choices, VERY few Americans take them up on the offer (like salads).

The restaurants aren't give free wi-fi access... you have to find a location that gives a coupon with any purchase for an hour of complimentary service.

Learn some math. A 500 or 800 lbs animal with only ~22 lbs of fat would actually be quite lean..
I have yet been to a McD's that let you get coupon off food order counter. this is VERY YMMV and you likely will have to purchase something, being that some of the coupons have extended date does not make this free nor hot.
now if you could walk in and have access, then it would be worthy of a posting.
Daddy, can I lick the keyboard when your done browsing FW?

It amazes me that folks criticize MacDonald’s for the food, while they forget how much of an important public service they do. It does do one thing which we have to be grateful for it helps in reducing the problem of hunger.. By providing economical food for as little as a dollar it does help to feed a lot of stomachs in these difficult times which our government should be doing. Think how violent the streets & cities would be incase people went hungry or did not have an option for an economical food which they can afford.
Yes it does make folks unhealthy and that is the reason why we need a “Public Option” in our healthcare…
I've never been a fan of McD's food, but find myself going there more often lately. I don't usually go for the food, but for their new fresh brewed Ice Tea or the new Coffee drinks. They totally remodelled my location, and the decor is just as nice as a Starbucks.
With free Wi-Fi I might even hang out and do some work there while my daughter is at volleyball practice.

It's unsecured and shows as at&t, but you have to log in through a WayPoint communications screen that asks for a coupon or CC or prepaid acct... at least in NY and VT that's the case.
If you are a real FW bargain hunter, just pull into the McD parking lot with your laptop and get online that way. I'm sure the signal will reach into the parking lot and you don't have to spend a dime. Bring lunch from home.

I was able to log in without be asked for a password. It showed the ATT one and the WayPoint. I knew the WayPoint was Mcdonalds so I only tried logging in on that one.

Just went to Taco Bell last week, and they already provide free wireless. They also redid the whole place to be more "resturant" than "fast food", to encourage people to stay (and spend more). Actually enjoyed myself witht he two TVs and nice comfy chairs for about a hour on a $3.00 breakfast meal.
The first link isn't even related to this continent. Very few FWF members are from the UK and might think this applies to the US if they only give it a quick glance.
The second link provided no citations and, without additional research, appears to be the stuff of urban legend (or, at best, poor reporting). They don't even say which specific crime the guy was supposedly arrested for. I doubt "using a cafe's wifi from a vehicle" is codified in Michigan's criminal code. I do agree with the part of the article that says it won't appear on his record... but not for the reason insinuated.

McDonalds has been offering these 1 hour wi-fi coupons for years (perhaps ever since they started offering wi-fi), so there is no rush. Just pick one up the next time you're there. Any of their signals that I have used worked flawlessly.

Here's more on the Michigan article. Hmmm, appears to have originated from Fox News.com. No comment there.
If you're an ATT DSL customer with the higher speeds, their Wi-Fi is free at McD's and Starbucks everyday.

Michigan's "Fraudulent access to computers, computer systems, and computer networks" law, a felony punishable by five years in prison and a $10,000 fine...prosecutors were more than aware of the 1979 law, which was revised in 2000 to include protections for Wi-Fi networks
There are similar statutes in every state. Their are also signal theft laws around that nation that have been used to prosecute. Now - why anyone would be charged under these laws I have no idea. Unless someone was doing something illegal while connected (kiddie pron, hacking, etc.) I can't imagine anyone really caring.
Edit: Fixed some messed up formatting.
