I just stumbled on this and thought it looked like a good deal. Note however that this does not have a bladder (I don't think it even supports one).

Description:

Get your mojo working! This pack by Camelbak breaks the mold. It's not a hydration system with bladder, but rather a stylish backpack that's ideal for your everyday adventures. The best part? The included .5L, spill-proof Camelbak "Better Bottle" (a $10 value)

# Insulated bottle pocket keeps liquid cooler
# Key clip hidden inside an external zippered pocket
# Ideal for hiking, back to school, or office
# Main compartment easily carries file folders, books, lunch, and more!

The "better" bottle is really about $8 and change at some stores, but they do work really well. 0.5L is a bit on the small side, but probably fine. I am not sure however that these are the newer BPA free bottles or the older ones which do not have the BPA free label (for those concerned).

$14 at JensonUSA with bottle

Also at Gear.com for same price

We have a larger one of these bottles and they work great...no spills, easy to carry around, easy suction...

Cheap because the bottles are made with BPA.

I agree. I own the podium bottle which does not have a straw and it is not that good (I just unscrew the cap anymore). There is another model of bottle similar to the "better" bottle but appears more economically built (I think it is the Performance Bottle), which does not have the folding bite valve, and it is just OK. The "better" bottle with the folding bite valve is the best I have used so far, and the one I use most often (0.75L), it also looks like a good quality product. When running or doing an activity the last thing I want to deal with is a bottle with flow issues, these are the next best thing to using a camelbak pack with the bladder.

That is my guess as well. I think that plastics are not 100% safe long term, or when heated, IMO, they are not as eco friendly as steel or aluminum either. As a general rule though, I trust my nose - if it smells off, then I would not use it. Everything has a risk associated and everyone is different. Better to get a stainless bottle if there is a great concern.

the newer camelbak better bottles are bpa free. Unless this specific one is an old bottle, I wouldn't be too concerned. My kids use them, and the ones we bought this year are bpa free...

I have the same bottle and "BPA Free" is printed right on the bottle. I called jensonusa and they went and physically looked at the bottle and they said that it is NOT BPA free. It is still a good deal for the backpack and I might jump on it for the backpack. eBags still sells it for $55. Thanks OP!

I have this backpack. It is somewhat lower quality than the Camelbak hydration packs. $14 is an OK price if shipping is free.
