Someone else posted the Shell Shocker for today - the 640GB WD Green hard drive, so I thought I would post this deal since it is roughly the same cost per MB but you get a bigger drive and 32MB Cache instead of 16MB. I went with this drive for my HTPC since it is larger.

linky

Use promo code EMCMLNV23 to get the $10 off and this includes free shipping right now.

I think if you aren't signed up for their newsletter, the code won't work. it works fine for me.

Here is a reply i received from Newegg.

"Thank you for contacting Newegg.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Unfortunately, we were experiencing internal issues with the promotional codes. However, this was already reviewed and fixed by our internal department. The promotional codes should now be working when entered." .

Its working fine for me now. Thanks OP

This drive failed on me after less than 3 months use. Lots of other reviews give similar stories. Just a fair warning for you all. Was great while it worked though!

I bought this exact hard drive for a HTPC build January 2009. Runs 24/7. No problems yet. runs very cool and very quiet.

Highly recommended for cramped micro-ATX cases with poor air circulation since this hard drive won't be a major source of heat.

Is there a quantity limit for the code? I added 8 to my cart and I only got a $50 discount.

Love Newegg, but the way they pack the bare drives for "Free Shipping" deals really needs improvement. Kinda defeats the savings if you have to ship it back for replacement.

Agreed. Just got my 1TB OEM drive from Newegg today. they put it in a little plastic holder and a whole LOT of peanuts with it. the problem? the peanuts were on top of the drive...... not around it. whats the point of the peanuts if the hard drive is on the bottom taking all the shock.

um, stuff settles in shipping. even if the drive starts in the middle, it'll settle to the bottom by the time it gets there.

thats why you pack it tight, not leaving any space for settlement/movement.

FYI:It looks like the Deal on this drive for $70 AR at zipzoomfly is Dead.

$75 is a great price for such a high quality drive.

That's what bubble-wrap is for. I can't believe someone would ship a bare drive any other way.

Mine came today, with bubble wrapp. But it was an OEM. Bare drive and OEM should be different shouldnt it?

One-layer of bubble-wrap won't help much. You'll need layers and layers. A heavily packed box of peanuts would be better. Foam is best.
