OK I know it is a huge YMMV but my local Home Depot has a bunch of returned/refurbed lawn and garden equipment for 50% off the lowest price. I bought this tiller Ariens tiller for $100. Brand new other than a small dent in the gas tank. There were chainsaws, weedeaters, etc.
This was in Lawrence, KS but might be worth a look in your local area.

I stumbled across a one-off refurbed Echo CS-310 chainsaw at my HD a few weeks ago. It was $80 and the regular price was $199. It looked like someone bought it, used it once and returned it. I was even able to register it on Echo's site for the 5 year warranty!

I think that was mine. A tree pinched the bar but I was able to bend it straight and return it for full refund. Good luck!
Germanpope: OK, I think the purpose of YMMV is to warn off the high-blood-pressure threadcrappers who live to spend ten minutes telling everyone how someone wasted thirty seconds of their day. So, for me, "Threadcrappers start your engines" is an acceptable substitute. Sufficient warning IMHO.
Or, if you were joking, that was some AWESOME sarcasm. (See previous sentence for example of awesome sarcasm)

Chainsaw bars are not that expensive or difficult to replace. I did a quick search and found one for $20 for this saw.

(P.S thanks for the post, I'm on my way over there now.)
I too hate lawns and gardens, but I hate landscapers even more. At 7am when the 200mph leaf blowers crank up, visions of looking through the scope of a 30-06 at those wielding them dance through my head..
Hopefully not to off topic, but Lowes (Issaquah, WA) has some items for sale like this. Some decent mark downs from original pricing, but boy was some of the items beat up. They had a nice BBQ that I have been looking at, but it was all beat up.
Green for thread title alone, although I will look for an electric start lawnmower so my mom can mow her little square without having to pull the rope.
