Are they GSM? Their website states that touchscreens and smartphones are excluded, want $50 a month for them. That pretty much sucks if true, though how would they know which phone I use if I don't tell them? Can they actually "deactivate" touchscreen? Kind of confused.
Also, how is their serivce in NYC. T-Mobile coverage has recently become atrocious.

MetroPCS has their own network. However, their coverage is limited as they mainly target large population areas and forgo any sort of rural build out. This type of carrier is great if you usually stay in one geographic area.
In some areas without native coverage they have roaming agreements setup with Cricket and possibly other smaller regional CDMA networks. For more information go to:

Had it 2 years in Tampa 4 phones unlimited text and talk $100
Better bars than verizon and tmobile at my home
Uhh, Metro uses part of Verizon's band. There's no way you're getting better reception than Verizon. The phone you had on Metro most likely was just a better phone than the one you had on Verizon.
Metro PCS is a great deal. The issue is finding a good deal on a CDMA phone to use on it.

I might be hallucinating, but I believe the site says that the $30 plan also has unlimited talk and text.
They have $30 per month for unlimited talk, text message, however you have to buy their phones which are very expansive. You can flash other carrier's phone like SprintPCS to their network for just $40, but most flashed phones only have talk function available yet MetroPCS requires $40 plan for flashed phone, for me, it is very ridicious because $40 provides internet, TXT, pictures messages which flashed phone can not use.
A shortcut for a cheap and better phone. Pickup a Samsung prepaid verizon flip phone for $29.99 at best buy and flash it with metropcs.Your total cost is $69.99+tax for a better phone.
Special $30 Rate Plan Terms & Conditions Service only offered on a monthly basis. This $30 rate plan is a limited time offer and not available with MetroPCS family plan discount. Offer valid when sign up for new activation. Certain restrictions apply. Visit metropcs.com or a MetroPCS store for information, specific terms and conditions of service, local coverage area, handset capabilities and any restrictions. Domestic nationwide long distance available only in continental U.S. and Puerto Rico. Rates, services and features subject to change. Taxes and fees not included.
Text messages can only be sent while in a MetroPCS coverage area or in a compatible roaming area. Unlimited international calls and texts are limited to selected countries, destinations, technologies and carriers. Specific unlimited international service countries, destinations, technologies and carriers are subject to change without notice, as are terms and conditions of international service. Unlimited international service not available with certain rate plans. Some phones have a maximum text message length of 160 characters. Due to unforeseen variables, such as restrictions on the recipient's account/service provider, acts or omissions of connecting or recipient's carriers, the functionality of the recipient's handset, your location, the location of the recipient or delays in the SMS platform, there is no guarantee of text message delivery. You will not be notified of non-delivery. When sending an international text message, the recipient's handset must be able to display characters from the Roman (Latin) alphabet in order to successfully receive the message.

International calling includes India.
"Your calls to India are unlimited when you add Unlimited International Calling today by visiting your local MetroPCS Stores or by calling MetroPCS Customer Service at 1.888.8metro8 (1.888.863.8768)."

Nope, Metro uses their own network.

Hey aughsum, I was interested in StraightTalk, but this MetroPCS plan looks just as tempting. One thing about either of these carriers is the fact that I have to go with one of their preselected and expensive-crappy phones. ....would you point me in a good direction to learn about cloning esn's or flashing my phone? ...So I can use these carriers on my current phone ....this would be the only reason why I would switch from Cingular/ATT even though it's a rip off in comparison ......ohhh ....BTW my cellphone is a Sony Ericsson W580i
