Guys,

Been trolling the threads for a while in search of a good receiver and finally decided on the Onkyo TX-SR806. Came across these two:

New Onkyo TX-SR806 at N.ewegg TX-SR806 (new) for $600 with FS

Refurb Onkyo TX-SR806 at accessories 4 less TX-SR806 (refurb) for $530.

Was very ready to pull the trigger on either one....until I came across the posts about a 'Dancing Blue Dots' PROBLEM DESCRIPTION.. Essentially, using upconversion to 1080p over HDMI causes blue dots to appear on the screen. The final fix was to take them into a service center and have the HDMI PCB changed.... I am really hoping that this was a initial product release issue and has been resolved since. I have emailed tech support regarding this and have not heard back.

For those who have bought this in recent months, do you have this problem....? From what I can tell, if you serial number has an "S" at the end (or higher than "G"), it MAY have been fixed... that is the word on the street, but no official word from Onkyo on this. This is frustrating and losing faith in Onkyo if they cannot come out clean.

I really like the feature set from this tx-sr806. If I were to switch brands to a Denon, Marantz, or Yamaha, do you know what the EQUIVALENT models would be?

Thanks so much in advance....

Bought it $380 refurb last year at Onkyo shop.

This is real high.

Wow!!!.... That is a good price. I guess I can hold off... thanks for the info

Any thoughts on "equivalent capable models from Yamaha / Denon / Marantz"

TIA
