they are (or were) grasping at being the next Aspen
they are not Aspen --- and that is a good thing
their market is So Cal road trippers --- nice to see they are pricing themselves in relation to reality
a couple of week long trips during the season and the Costco pass pays off --- I hope they do well with this pricing --- the eastern sierra is unbelievably nice and only five hours in a car --- you can spend five hours sitting in So Cal traffic to and from work

Did a little searching, here's an article from The Ski Channel that multiday passes may also be sold at Costco.

Missed MVP? Mammoth partners with Costco to give great deals on skiing
If you were one of those unfortunate souls who didn't pick up a 2009-2010 Mammoth MVP Pass last April, fear not, as Mammoth has once again teamed with discount retailer Costco to make your passes and lift tickets more affordable this winter. But hurry, as these deals will go on sale starting November 20th, and last only until January 2nd.

For those looking to snag a season pass at a reduced rate, an Adult unrestricted pass will set you back a mere $839, compared to the $1675 if purchased through Mammoth. Costco will also sell Mammoth passes to Teen/Youth for $599, and Child/Senior rates will be $419.

If your not looking to make that sort of investment, Costco will offer discount lift tickets as well. While official pricing for the lift tickets has yet to be announced, Costco will offer Midweek Two-Day passes and Three out of Four Day passes which are valid anytime.

To give an idea of pricing points, here is the 2008-2009 Costco prices for discounted tickets:

1) a Two-Day (midweek only ticket) for $126. This comes out to $63 per day.
2) a Three of Four day ticket for $169. This comes out to $56.34 per day.

Most So Cal Costco stores have the 3 of 4 day lift ticket for $175 (blackout dates Dec 20 - Jan 5 and Feb 13 - 15. The hot deal was back in April when they sold the unrestricted MVP pass (mentioned above) for something like $576. They also added 20% to gift cards purchased along w/ the pass. However, it's still not as good as other resorts (i.e. Epic pass).

Thanks for the info! Flying in through Reno, will check if the Costco there has the passes.

Mammoth Mountain adult season pass - I need to wash my mind out with soap.

Called the Reno Costco and they are only selling the Tahoe Snowbomb cards. But then I tried the Carson City Costco and they have the three of four day lift tickets for $174.99.

Did you know that you can fly directly into Mammoth now on Horizon Air?

Yeah, but airfare was double of what it costs to get into Reno. Plus we will rent an SUV for the trip to Mammoth Lakes, so we will be mobile once we get there. This is a yearly excursion, peole coming from different parts of the country. But I would like to fly directly there on year!
