Its an excellent backpack. I have one, bought it for $40 or so from SamsClub a year back. But there is no way it can store a 17 inch laptop. I have a 14.1 inch Lenovo and it fills the place for laptop completely. For even a 15 inch laptop you will have to do some cutting for not use the straps to secure the laptop. I specially like the band which goes in front of the chest and secures the straps, good while on my bike.
Note if you are looking for a Swissgear pack that will fit a 17" laptop, SamsClub currently is selling a TSA checkpoint friendly model for ~$40. The item number is 695869, and i'll try to link to it here.
