I was supposed to pick up my $699 Macbook today but the rebate had expired 11/1. Then I noticed they have a new special: the new MC207LL/A Macbook, with 7h battery (Apple's claim), for $999 - $200 rebate + tax. Click here.
This is a great deal, the same Macbook sells for $999 in Apple's store.
Of course, you can wait for refurbs at Apple, but they will most likely be the older models.
Green OP. This is a lot better than the Educational Discount Apple gives.
Frankly, I am surprised that Apple allows them to do this on such a recent model.

It's actually real. Well, I haven't picked up my unit yet but I had my brother go to the store and check it out and he talked to one of the employee and he verified that it's a real deal. Only downside to this deal is that rebate is not a check, it's a prepaid-visa card. Anyone had problem with this kind of rebate before? I hope not....
that's a sweet deal. gonna see if my roommate wants one. he's been talking about getting a new mac

And if u r reward member at microcenter and if u have previous purchase receipt of anything u can get more 5% with that receipt coupon

FWIW, keep in mind the new model doesn't include firewire anymore and also does not support the Apple Remote either. In the past, it had a firewire port and although it did not include an Apple Remote, you could purchase one from Apple and use it with the Macbook.

I was thinking...I'm not going to risk my $200 rebate for 5% discount(about $50). Who knows...they can argue 5% discount invalidates the rebate (even though there is nothing on the rebate form about this). I've heard too many bad stories about rebates maybe it's not worth all this. =)

Its not a risk if the T&C doesn't explicitly prohibit it, and there is nothing in the rebate form that prohibits it.

I don't know how reliable the rebate is, but the prepaid visa card is easy to deal with. Call the toll-free# on the card, and ask to close the account. They'll send you a check to the address on record (for the card).
fyi.. I've never had an issue with an MC rebate offer before.

In for one, thanks OP. The deal is until 11/15/09, so says the rebate form. Can't use rebate Visa card to get cash out from ATM. Houston Galleria are store still have 130 in stock.
I tried to order the older model yesterday for the $699 deal, they canceled the order due to selling the last one in the store before they processed my order.
I will be much happier with the new one, but couldn't justify the $300 difference. The $100 difference is worth the upgrade.
I can now retire my ibook G4 that I am still using. May can get $135 on eBay for it...
I have a Macbook Pro Aluminum 13.3 and while I'm not partaking in this deal, I do think this is a great deal and this Macbook may fix an issue with the Aluminum MBP which is how hot the bottom of the laptop gets!
