Finally bought on to upgrade my aging 20gb. Cheapest I've seen so far.
Easier to mod now with new hddhackr 1.22. There is also a new version of Xploerer360 thats been updated to work with 250GB. Last but not least you will of course need to 250gb bin file
Here's a nice tutorial someone wrote up for upgrading to the 250GB drive with all necessary links to stuff you will need.

We would also need to buy the casing for a HD right? Im running an Arcade atm so I have no HD case. Other thing is the ones on eBay for $10 look to not include the cabling. Not sure what I will need.
"Microsoft update will lock out unlicensed Xbox 360 storage devices
"Microsoft has made a new move today that will likely anger many current Xbox 360 users; locking out unlicensed storage devices that are not sold by the software giant.
"When Preview Program members start receiving the Xbox 360 system update next week, one of the changes is that unauthorized memory units will no longer work with the Xbox 360," writes Xbox Live's Larry Hryb, via MajorNelson.
The new update is the one that adds Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm integration and was generally highly anticipated by the gaming community.
As an example of what is coming, the 512MB Microsoft Memory Unit sells for $30 USD while unlicensed storage devices such as the expandable (up to 16GB) 2GB Datel Memory Unit sells for $40 USD. You will now be forced to buy the lower capacity, much more expensive Microsoft drive if you want to have access to your gaming life.
"If you’ve moved your profile or saved games onto one to 'back it up,' you’d better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device prior to taking the update. If you continue to use an unauthorised memory unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games," adds Hryb."
Yeh I read that a week or two ago. I have 2 Xboxs. One is for offline play which is where this drive would go, the other is for online. So Im not worried about this. Although in a few months the MS 250gig drives should be like $110 or so on eBay, which isnt a whole lot more than this WD drive + a case (about $70 for the two items). Although theres not guarentee it will be available to buy that soon or that the price will be $110 (im going off the eBay price of the 120gig being $50 new)
I've been an xbox360 owner for a few years and same with OP, I own a 20GB drive. Other than installing the games on my drive (which still require the original game disk), what's the benefit of having the additional space?
The only other thing I can think of is hosting vidoes/music. I own a TiVo and host via pyTivo so I haven't gone down this route.

Shrug
MSFT will push this update through the internet AND new games. The next time you buy a new game it will automatically install the patch. If this patch disables the 250gb drive, you're screwed whether you're plugged onto the internet or not.
its already been confirmed that "patch" will only block third party datel memory card not the hard drive folks. Also benefit of a hard drive is you can install all your games for better performance and longer life (due to less heat) so less chance of RRoD.
The reason I want a HD is since my backup discs get messed up so easily. Sometimes the slightest smudge means re-burning the entire thing which is about 30min and a wasted disc. A lot less chance of this if the filkes are on the drive and the xbox just checks to see if the disc is present.

If you install games and take up all your space, all you going to fit DLC on your drive? Some map packs are 500+MB Arcade games are getting bigger too 200MB + so larger space is needed and paying MS price gouge rape prices is not gonna happen. $150 for a 120gb, imagine how much they will want for a 250gb lol think about it more then $1 for a GB of space ahahaha I dont think MS is gonna sell these alone, only with some MW2 special edition. I dont think they will be selling them alone because they would probably want as much as an arcade console or pro console for just the HDD $270 for a 250gb HDD would be priceless.
You can buy a case to put these in from DealExtreme.com for about $10 shipped which comes with the wires and everything. Even has hologram stickers to make them look legit ahaha
This drive is a T series (not S). Correct me if I am wrong but I remembering reading in a tutorial that the BEVT series were NOT compatible with the xbox 360 whereas the BEVS series are. In any case, it's a good deal for a ps3 drive replacement.

Could you provide the link? I only see the one with case but without the cable. Thanks.

Good catch..i like to know if this one will work on the xbox 360.
Hmm well if you look at the HDDHackr changelog it says that BEVT drives were supported since v1.0
(v1.00) Please do not use anymore! * Completely new version core * Two flashing modes, Auto and Manual * Western Digital Vendor Intro Power Brute for misflashed drives * Minimized incompatibility problems * Improved exception handling * Confirmed HddHacker supports - WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS - WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT - WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT - WD VelociRaptor Series
THe latest version says the following: (v1.22) * Added support for the Western Digital Scorpio Series manufactured 2009
I've never fully researched into this, correct me if I'm wrong.
