VMware Fusion 2.0 is available at Buy.com for $28.99. There is a rebate for $10 (any user) or $30 (upgraders). To top that off, there is a FREE upgrade to version3 with this mail in offer.

Free for 'Switchers' - not Upgraders

In for one. Thanks OP. Under $20 for VM Fusion 3 is hard to beat!

Been waiting a while for a great deal to get vm fusion - especially for version 3 because it's optimized for mac os 10.6 - snow leopard. I'm currently running vm fusion 2 on my work macbook just fine with snow leopard. But I wanted my own copy especially since I just got a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from an event.

Better than the Amazon.com Goldbox deal last week. I paid $26.99 there.

For you Mac heads, check out www.MacHeist.com for a free bundle of 6 software titles.

Can you get both the rebate and the upgrade? There was some language in the upgrade form about it not being combinable with any other VMware-sponsored offer. That sounds to me like no rebate if you do the upgrade.

I bought the Amazon deal last week (cheaper than the $40 upgrade on my existing copy). Sent in my upgrade form and was thinking of trying the $10 rebate after I get the upgrade. Don't want to jeopardize the upgrade, so I wanted to do that first.

I think the upgrade terms, say can be combined.

FYI do the upgrade to 3 by email, include V2 serial number and send PDF of your receipt. They will give you the V3 key in a few days

Do I need to install V2 before submitting for the V3 key? Because I am planning to buy MAC before holidays(waiting on a best deal ). Where can I find the serial number, inside the box or need to install?

you get get the same kind of software for free from sun microsystems virtualbox. virtualbox.org

The serial # is found on the disk envelope.

I submitted my upgrade via e-mail (they give you 3 ways: snail mail, fax, or e-mail).
Hopefully they process it quicker.

Doing the $30 upgrade before the "30 days after purchase" clause expire. I got the serial # from Parallels app that was part of the bundle from MacPromo earlier this year.

The best part about Fusion 3 is the importer. Apparently, it's a lot better than the importer in version 2 at sucking the contents of a different PC onto your mac. That wouldn't be hard to do.

Also, I guess they have Windows 7 support in Fusion 3. I bought one, because I had both Parallels and Fusion. It's a lot cheaper than purchasing the upgrade for Parallels OR Fusion directly.

How would I fill out the rebate form if doing it by email? Should I print it, fill it out, and then scan it in as a PDF? Or is there a better/easier way?

in for 1, thx OP!

don't forget 2% FatCa$h (58c)

great deal, since Fusion works better than Parallels right now in Snow Leopard

I bought version 2 in early August. Is there any way for me to get in on this upgrade rebate somehow?

I'd like to move to version 3 for Windows 7.

I also submitted my form by email. Anyone have any idea on when the V3 key is sent to you....Also, can I just use the trial version until I get the key, is it a full featured trial with a time limit?

Tripp1269 says they'll email you the new serial in a few days.

Yes, you can use the fully-functional trial in the meantime.

Its been a week since my email submission and no upgrade key as yet. Wondering if i should contact them.

This is a great deal.

What puzzles me is that we users of v.2 can do this to upgrade for $20.00 or free, yet have to waste time and resources to do so.
Why can't VMware just offer and upgrade at the same price, saving our time, theirs (processing rebates) and the environment (packaging, shipping, etc.)?

BTW, deal seems to gone, as price is now $57.24 before any rebates.

they most likely will, at a point, but probably want to let the channel clear out of 2.0 boxes, which is what we received. It is actually better for all on that part. If they don't sell, they often get discounted and sent BACK to the retailer or discounter, and then ANOTHER shipping transaction takes place, and then even less $ is received. So, some companies, might do it that way if their primary distribution channel was digital download, but others are still doing the rebate thing. Think symantec, they always still do the rebate thing, and intuit, same thing. Once we go digital totally, then there might be a better way to do this for all.

Its been a week since my email submission and no upgrade key as yet. Wondering if i should contact them.

I submitted my email rebate on 11-5-09, still nothing. No confirmation email either. I called but got voicemail. I left a message today.
Toll Free:
1-877-392-9909 (8:00AM to 6:00 PM PST M-F)

They never returned my phone call but I do have two trouble tickets issued regarding the free upgrade key (got an email). Now I guess I just wait until they get around to reading them.

^^ You may want to try again. I just emailed mine and got an instant confirmation:

A request for support has been created and assigned ticket #000000. A representative will follow-up with you as soon as possible.

The v. 3 upgrade is outsourced to some outfit called Medius. They bite; granted the offer does state it takes up to 2 weeks.

I'll give it a bit longer before I fax in the form or complain to VMware.

my v3.0 emailed in uprade took about a week, but it came back with a valid code. Fine.

I'm still trying to track down something that will qualify me for the 30$ crossgrade rebate. Anyone have any thoughts or links?

Currently $11.99 after $10 MIR at Amazon. Unfortunately, the free upgrade to version 3.0 rebate expired on 11/30/09.
