This is the first deal I posted, so go easy please.

So I was shopping for insulation and Lowe's in Grand Rapids, Mi has their Owens Corning R30 unfaced 31 Sqft on sale for $9.50. There also was a sign posted where they were taking 20% off all insulation. They were all out of that type of insulation, but they said I could pay now and pick it up when it comes back in stock. Well come to find out they are getting rid of the Owens and going with a different brand (don't remember the name sorry). So that is why the big discount. The item number will be the same on the new brand and when it comes in I can get it for that price I paid.

So it rang up at $6.56 a roll, plus I went to http://www.Lowes.com/moving and requested a 10% off coupon, which they email, and it stacked with the other discount. So I got a roll for $5.90. I only went in wanting 32, but I grabbed 40 because at that price you can't go wrong. I paid $250 OTD for 40 rolls.

So the YMMV, because I don't know how long they will have the sale for. The new brand is expected to arrive 11-20-09 and he said the new brand will go back to the original $19.97 price.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE WANTING TO QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL TAX CREDITS FOR INSULATION UPGRADES:

Not only do you have to keep your receipts for your insulation expenses, but to qualify, you OFFICIALLY have to show that your new level of insulation meets or exceeds the 2009 IECC energy code minimum guidelines. I'm not sure how to go about getting this certified other than some kind of inspection that will provide you with paperwork to prove you meet this energy code requirement. I'm also not sure how they will attempt to enforce this requirement come tax time.

Probably switching to john manville insulation. Very few lowes still have owens left. Both HD and Lowes have different insulation companies as suppliers which helps them not compete price wise.

My lowes has been out of r30 since they had that 100 dollar gift card promo. Homedepot matched the per roll price but not gift card and was out of r30 for weeks.

last sat. homedepot finally had some last weekend... I used 10 of 50 coupons and kept buying in rolls of 6. (6x9.37-10) or about 7.7 a roll. Still a good deal. But the stuff is hard to find.

I wonder if I can price match

I used both Johns Manville and Owens Corning R-19 in my attic. The Johns Manville stood higher and filled the rafter space better than the Owens Corning, which remained flatter even after manual fluffing. I would buy Johns Manville only in the future.

don't forget to save your receipts for another 30% tax credit from the government

All of Lowe's stores are going to Johns Manville Formaldehyde Free Building Insulation. I am glad to hear that goofyroo liked the JM insulation over the OC brand (since I work for JM). JM truly does offer superior products (and I am not saying that because I work there).

Who would have ever thought that insulation would make the hot deals

I was able to match at Home Depot. They will
check to see
if any Lowes within 100 miles has it. (they did call)

It ended up being less than $6 a roll
with a couple 10 off 50 coupons.

keep a copy of this statement.

According to the link provided in the summary, you can do it yourself:

Question

Can I do the install myself for the tax credit?
Answer

Yes, you can install the eligible product yourself, you are not required to have a particular contractor do the install.

Many of the energy efficiency tax credits allow the cost of installation/labor to be included in the eligible amount (view this FAQ for details). However, if you install the product on your own, you can not claim a labor charge for the installation. There is no basis for which to charge the government for your time.

If your around Grand Rapids you probably have Michcon for your gas service. They have a rebate that will cover 25% of the cost up to $250 without an energy audit and 50% up to $500 with an energy audit. And you can DIY.
