Interesting because, even though it is not sold as a printer, it could be upgraded to a Printer by downloading the driver, per Product Page on Brother website.
Anyone has experience with this machine? Why would they not advertise the Printer capability, if it is already there? Curious...

on the same page you can see that they are selling the ink cartridges for this printer for $59.99.
You can get replacement cartridges for this printer for under $2-$3 each. These Brother AIOs are great. I have not put them to the test for photo printing, but for everyday use, making copies and faxing they work great and have the cheapest, longest lasting generic replacement cartridges.

I have this machine. I bought it from Staples or OD about a year ago for $29.00 plus tax. It was a refurb but it looked brand new to me. Its good for everyday printing and works fine as a scanner. It comes with software disk but I'm not sure if the disk has "control center" which gives you lots of control and capabilities. If not, just download "control center" from Brother.com. Of course its not really great for photo printing. My only complaint is that it frequently goes through a cleaning cycle which I guess sprays ink to keep the inkjets clean. I really didn't use it that much but it literally ran out of ink cleaning itself. I bought generic ink for about $10.00 but I haven't loaded the cartridges yet. If the generic ink screws up the printer, I'll just go buy a new printer.
I think Staples or OD give trade in on the ink cartridges too.
Could you explain? Where do you go on the Brother website to download the Control Center? The 2580c as it sits can not have it's scanner abilities controlled by the computer. I do not know if that limitation is due to the 2580c firmware or the computer software provided on the CD shipped with the unit. Does downloading the Control Center as you indicated give you that added feature of controlling scan operations from the computer?
