These are the best prices that I have seen for the new DROID devices - $50 savings off most retailers and over $100 off of Verizon. The upgrade prices are $119.99 for the Droid and Free for the Droid Eris - both best I have seen.

I really want this phone, but every time I look at the monthly cost next to my $30 SERO 500 plan, it drives me nuts. To start, I only use about 100 minutes a month that aren't mobile to mobile. Maybe 100 texts. Light data use. I really wish someone had a realistic light usage plan with an android phone.

FWIW...
do the math. what he was saying is that you sign a new 2 yr agreement with or without a previous account. should you choose to break the contract early (essentially, the same as having no contract), then you pay the $175 ETF + the $99 initial cost of the phone + the $35 activation fee = $309.

"Ouch" time: Verizon raised ETF to $350 for "high-end" devices. I imagine this would definitely include the DROID.

Did you even read the terms on wirefly???? It clearly states a $175 ETF. Verizon has NOT raised the ETF yet. That is supposed to go into effect on 11/15. So people want this phone or other advanced phones should get in now.

I think you're also on the hook for at least the first month of service.

That's a given...whether or not you go with no contract or with a contract but terminating early. You still need to pay for every month you use the service.

Just get a Touch Pro 2. It has a 3.6" screen which is only .1 inches smaller than the droid and best of all you pay only $30 a month. Then install SPB mobile shell 3.5 and the android theme to make it look like the android OS if you want. And you still only pay $30 a month.

I would say yes. The screen is much bigger with higher resolution too.
Probably true, especially since the $70+ monthly fee is the same for both phones.

Might just be something I'm overlooking, but is it possible to get this as an upgrade for only 1 line in a family plan? The website seems to say so but I have to choose at least 2 phones when selecting a family plan.

I was wondering the same thing. Couldn't figure out how to select one phone WITH a family plan.

I just ordered this from wirefly for 149.99. Any way to price match it to 99.99
does anyone see any mention in terms that we MUST keep the Data plan?? Im pouring thru T&Cs and cant seem to find it. Though I'm sure i saw the terms "cannot be altered for the first 181 days" half hr ago but cant seem to find it again.

I'd like to cancel the data plan if i could Be careful. If you do either of these you will trigger the Wirefly Equipment Discount terms that you must agree to before ordering:
DEACTIVATING THIS PHONE OR DOWNGRADING FEATURES OR RATE PLAN MAY LEAD TO ADDITIONAL CHARGES Our goal is to provide you with the very best purchasing experience possible, including huge savings vs. buying in a retail store. Your wireless device purchase price was reduced by an Equipment Discount of $200 ($300 for PDA's and smart phones; $300 for Netbooks).
By accepting this price reduction, you agree to repay this discount if, during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, you: Fail to pay your balance due to Verizon Wireless each month Disconnect this Verizon Wireless line of service Transfer this equipment to another Verizon Wireless line of service Change your Verizon Wireless service rate plan to a lower monthly service rate Deactivate the email/data feature if one was required at the point of purchase Transfer/port an existing mobile number from another Verizon Wireless account if this is a new line of service Replace an existing account with Verizon Wireless with this account if this is a new line Return your equipment for a refund or exchange and it is not in its original, new condition or it is not returned within the 30-day return period outlined in our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
If you break any of these contract provisions, except as a result of a documented service quality issue related to the carrier service, you authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of the Equipment Discount. That being said, green for you OP! But your link has a Virginia zip code in it. Don't forget to click Change Zip Code before adding to cart!

punee verizon changed their terms in nov 08 that you MUST have a dataplan with all smart phones. Its stupid - I know but you can no longer do the pay as you go - they mandate the $30/month charge sol.
Question... I upgraded my 2 year when the Imagio came out and now since it's more than 30 days I can't return it. Wirefly has the Eris for $399.99 when the Retail is really $499.99?
If I just sell the Imagio and buy the Eris from Wirefly is there any obligation I have to Wirefly? How do they offer it for only $399?

Can you please elaborate a little more? How much is the TP2 and where can I get it for my Sprint SERO plan?
If you are doing the upgrade and also currently receive an "access discount" on your monthly bill - don't forget to contact Verizon and have them put the discount back on your bill.
I wasn't able to find a spot on Wirefly's website to notify them that I am to receive a monthly discount.
-also-
I am currently able to take advantage of Verizon's 'New Every Two Program' (receive $50 off a new phone).
If I purchase the phone from Verizon's website it would be: 2-yr Contract Price $299.99 Promotion Credit -100.00 New Every Two Discount -50.00 Final Price 149.99
Thru WireFly it is $99.99.
Has anyone figured out a way to use WireFly and take advantage of the New Every Two Discount -50.00'? Making the price thru WireFly: Phone Price $99.99 New Every Two Discount -50.00 Final Price $49.99.

ChizzledFrmStone said: If I just sell the Imagio and buy the Eris from Wirefly is there any obligation I have to Wirefly? How do they offer it for only $399?No obligation. Put the Eris in your cart with no rate plan and you'll see there are no terms and conditions to agree to. It's just an equipment purchase. The extra terms and conditions apply only when Wirefly is subsidizing the price of the phone with a plan.
It makes sense. They don't lose money selling you an Eris for $400 (they might not make much, but they don't lose money). Obviously they do lose money if they sell it to you for $0.00. So in that scenario, getting and keeping the rate plan is fundamental to the agreement.
exactly what I was thinking... AND in europe they are coming out with another driod with a GSM card in it i believe (world phone)so... technically can be used on VZ tmo and att...
anpk said: You guys know that this isnt the new motorola droid running android 2 right? Some people think the Eris is nicer than the Droid, if you don't want the keyboard. It's basically the same phone as the Hero. An outrageous hot deal at free, if you ask me.
100 is still a good price if I can't use the New Every 2 Years $50 credit. However, the web ask me to pick 2 phones even I only want to get a Droid for one line. If I pick a free phone for second line (also eligible for a upgrade), I need to pick the $5 messaging feature for at least 6 months. Don't know if there are any way to get around?
Anyone call to place the order for a family plan?

Does it matter where you buy the phone to get New every 2 if you sign up at least 34.99 voice plan with 2 yr contract? Or is it only valid if you buy and activate through verizon store or online? i would think that when your line is activated then you will be able to see when you are due for new every 2 from your account online. I think this is a killer deal to get either free for eris or 100 for droid. I'm thinking about moto droid.
anpk said: You guys know that this isnt the new motorola droid running android 2 right? can you elaborate? please enlighten me before i make a mistake because the phone desc on the 99$ deal says:
Highlights
* A Touch Screen, QWERTY Keyboard Slider Smartphone Featuring Android 2.0 * Fully Customizable With Thousands Of Apps Downloadable From The Android Market * Advanced 5.0 Megapixel Camera/ Camcorder With Geo-tagging, Flash, Edit Tools, and More * Lots Of Your Favorite Apps, Like Google Maps and Facebook, Pre-installed * Integrated GPS Supports Google Maps and Other Location-based and Navigation Apps * Amazing 3.7" Light-responsive Color Display Is Perfect For Watching Videos * Fast 3G and WiFi Support For Streaming Multimedia Like YouTube Videos
I guess its fine if you could live with android 1.5 when 2.0 is available. If you want an analogy with windows (if for some reason you'd ever want to buy it), its like buying xp when windows7 is coming out. The DROID is the only phone running Android 2.0 right now. The Eris runs the previous version of Android but will get the 2.0 update at some point soon. Both are great deals, IMO.

My experience is if you are out of contract, you can activate the phone via the Verizon my account and opt to not select the data plan. I have had a few smart phones w/o data plan. Of course nothing had wifi so i might try the Eris w/o data and remain on a month to month basis. The use wifi only for data. Should work...no?

I guess the same thing could be done with the Wirefly deal? Buy the Eris for $29.99 and activate then switch back to previous unsubsidized phone?
What is the phone # to call Wirefly? I do not see a contact # on their website and i cannot get through the checkout for renewal without it adding a new plan?
UPDATE I guess there is more risk involved that goes beyond the ETF if acquiring through Wirefly when buying subsidized then switching the 2yr renewed line back to a non-subsidized phone
