Saw this on CAG and didn't see it posted here. Basically you get a text message that will get you $20 off the normal price of $50. For more details/discussion, you can check CAG and/or SD.

What you will need:
Reward Zone membership (free)
Cell phone with text message

Legitimate way to do this:
-Text "Gamer" to 332211. This signs you up to Best Buy reward zone alert thingy. I think they text you game related deals.
-Once signed up, within a few hours, you should get a text saying:
Show this msg & Save $20 on XBox Live 12 Month Card. Sku: 9636222 Expires 11/14 Rz Members Only. Limit 1.-Go to BB, pick up a subscription card, have them scan your Reward Zone card, then show them this text message.

Shortcut way to do this (avoid signing up for alert system):
*Many people on other forums reported this to work*
-Send YOURSELF the text message:

EDIT: Some people apparently have had luck getting them to apply this to the ModernWarfare2 12-month subscription card, which comes with a MW2 t-shirt. Probably YMMV.

i am getting an xbox360 from the deal on saturday.. what's a good deal for this xbox live price? i think this is awesome as it's about 40% off retail normal price right? how much should i be looking to pay for xbox live as a FW addict member?

alert mods

a true FW pays NOTHING

correction: They pay YOU!

$30 is the cheapest (legitimate deal) I've seen. Amazon and Newegg almost always has these for $40. Most retail stores normally sells for $50.

For those that are sprint customers. You can sign into your sprint account, then look on the right side of the Overview page for Text Messaging. Just copy and paste the message and send to yourself.

I'm already in for 2 years on a previous deal which included some stuff in a kit. I might just have to get this though for my 2nd Xbox that we use as an extender.

The text says it expires on 11/14. Basically with your xbox, you get free xbox live Silver membership. That gives you access to downloadable content like music, movies, add-ons, demo. Gold membership (which is what this is) gives you the ability to play games against other people online. If that's something you're not interested in, you probably don't need it.

One thing you can do is to buy this now, but don't activate it. Once you get your xbox, I think they give you like a few days or few weeks (I can't remember for sure) of free xbox live gold subscription. If you like it, you can activate it. if you feel like you don't need it, you can return this card or sell it on craigslist or something.

It also lets you use the xbox for Netflix viewing, gives you access to some content that is only available for gold subscribers, and earlier access to some content/demos than silver.

My son loves downloading and playing the game demo's, and that sure saves me a bunch of money buying games, but the gold users get to download the new demos about a week earlier than the silver users. He's regularly disappointed when he sees something new and has a to wait.

So a couple of dollars a month might be well spent.

I kept getting a bunch of spam texts, and I never used text anyway, so I had it disabled on my phone awhile back to avoid the charges each spam cost me. If I just typed up that msg on my phone as if I were going to text someone and showed them that, do you think that would work?

No idea, but worth a try - it probably depends on who you get to ring you up. Chances are, they won't look that carefully, punch into the sku, see that it works and you'll be fine. That's just my guess though.

Thanks OP! In for one tonight - went up to the register and the cashier looked like she'd never heard of such a promotion (through text). She had scanned the Xbox Live card and saw that the SKU in the text differed from that on the card (as though they should have matched). Took her calling two people over who were equally befuddled before one suggested typing in the SKU in the text, which of course did apply the discount.
