Saw this on CAG and didn't see it posted here. Basically you get a text message that will get you $20 off the normal price of $50. For more details/discussion, you can check CAG and/or SD.
What you will need: Reward Zone membership (free) Cell phone with text message
Legitimate way to do this: -Text "Gamer" to 332211. This signs you up to Best Buy reward zone alert thingy. I think they text you game related deals. -Once signed up, within a few hours, you should get a text saying: Show this msg & Save $20 on XBox Live 12 Month Card. Sku: 9636222 Expires 11/14 Rz Members Only. Limit 1.-Go to BB, pick up a subscription card, have them scan your Reward Zone card, then show them this text message.
Shortcut way to do this (avoid signing up for alert system): *Many people on other forums reported this to work* -Send YOURSELF the text message: Show this msg & Save $20 on XBox Live 12 Month Card. Sku: 9636222 Expires 11/14 Rz Members Only. Limit 1.-Go to BB, pick up a subscription card, have them scan your Reward Zone card, then show them this text message.
EDIT: Some people apparently have had luck getting them to apply this to the ModernWarfare2 12-month subscription card, which comes with a MW2 t-shirt. Probably YMMV.
i am getting an xbox360 from the deal on saturday.. what's a good deal for this xbox live price? i think this is awesome as it's about 40% off retail normal price right? how much should i be looking to pay for xbox live as a FW addict member?
For those that are sprint customers. You can sign into your sprint account, then look on the right side of the Overview page for Text Messaging. Just copy and paste the message and send to yourself.
OP does the deal have an expiration date in particular? i've never done xbox live so i don't know if i should sign up at all, after all my console doesn't even come with any games.. (but i did hear xbox live is awesome!)

I'm already in for 2 years on a previous deal which included some stuff in a kit. I might just have to get this though for my 2nd Xbox that we use as an extender.

(but i did hear xbox live is awesome!) The text says it expires on 11/14. Basically with your xbox, you get free xbox live Silver membership. That gives you access to downloadable content like music, movies, add-ons, demo. Gold membership (which is what this is) gives you the ability to play games against other people online. If that's something you're not interested in, you probably don't need it.
One thing you can do is to buy this now, but don't activate it. Once you get your xbox, I think they give you like a few days or few weeks (I can't remember for sure) of free xbox live gold subscription. If you like it, you can activate it. if you feel like you don't need it, you can return this card or sell it on craigslist or something.

It also lets you use the xbox for Netflix viewing, gives you access to some content that is only available for gold subscribers, and earlier access to some content/demos than silver.
My son loves downloading and playing the game demo's, and that sure saves me a bunch of money buying games, but the gold users get to download the new demos about a week earlier than the silver users. He's regularly disappointed when he sees something new and has a to wait.
So a couple of dollars a month might be well spent.
I kept getting a bunch of spam texts, and I never used text anyway, so I had it disabled on my phone awhile back to avoid the charges each spam cost me. If I just typed up that msg on my phone as if I were going to text someone and showed them that, do you think that would work?

No idea, but worth a try - it probably depends on who you get to ring you up. Chances are, they won't look that carefully, punch into the sku, see that it works and you'll be fine. That's just my guess though.
Thanks OP! In for one tonight - went up to the register and the cashier looked like she'd never heard of such a promotion (through text). She had scanned the Xbox Live card and saw that the SKU in the text differed from that on the card (as though they should have matched). Took her calling two people over who were equally befuddled before one suggested typing in the SKU in the text, which of course did apply the discount.

I also haven't received a text. Great deal if it works though OP!
Thanks I'll give this a try over the weekend. I'm going to go with the shortcut way of doing this. I don't want spam texts.

So, there's no limit on the deal? Interesting...

I signed up and I got the SKU about 5 to 10 minutes after i signed up. You can just text "stop" to the same number and it removes you from the spam list.

Glad it's working for everyone. I actually haven't tried it yet because my subscription goes out til May 2011 as is, though I'm tempted to try for the MW2 tshirt bundle. I love free shirts!
Thanks, OP. Just signed up and am waiting for the return text.

Funny you mention this but I did get the shirt bundle. The MW2 that is.......
I was able to get the shirt bundle as well after txting myself the sku; you don't need to be all cloak and dagger about it, just give them the sku and it'll work fine with or without the txt msg.

I grabbed one of the bundles at the BB near Queens Center tonight but as an FYI the discount didn't apply until the cashier entered my RZ number.

Thanks OP!
Earlier today, I sent the message Gamer. About 6h later, I still didn't receive reply, so I sent one myself and went to buy one. Everything went smoothly, although for some funny reason tax was 0% (in Bellevue WA). I didn't complain, so it was 29.90 out the door.

I didn't bother waiting for the text to come. (though I did sign up) I just had my wife send me the text, changed her name to "Best Buy" for good measure, and took the card to the cashier. She rang in the card, then I showed her the text. She punched in the sku and bam... $20 bucks off. It's not like the employee is going to look closely at all the different cell phones, trying to figure out where the text came from. They just read the number off your screen.
It was very easy, and holy cow is this cheap. As we left Best Buy, my wife said "If $30 is the cheapest you can get it, why don't I sign up for a RZ account myself and grab another to tape under the xbox until we need it?".. I love this woman.
Thank you so much OP. Just got my xbox for my birthday, and this was another great gift.
gracyon said: grab another to tape under the xbox until we need it Glad it worked for you too. Just so you know, you can stack your subscription cards for up to 3yrs worth. That is, if you activate both 12-months cards now, your subscription will expire 24months from now. My subscription right now is until May 2011. I guess there's some advantages to not activate both (say, in case you want to start your second 12months later with a gap in between), but if you're worried about losing it or something you can just use both now.
