The Wizard of Oz (70th Anniversary - Ultimate Collector's Edition) (1939) - Blu-Ray DVD Review

One way to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz is the Ultimate Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray. This adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the all-time classics in the history of cinema, and will win you a bet against nay-sayers who confidently claim there’s never been a remake as good as the original film. Shot in sepia-toned black and white, young Kansan Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) lives on a farm with her aunt and uncle, dreaming of a chance to break away, as the song goes “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” During a tornado, she receives a bump on the head and then finds herself, her dog Toto, and her house, which landed on and killed the Wicked Witch of the East, in the magical Land of Oz, vividly brought to life by Technicolor....read the full review

Thanks OP! On a side note, I'd love to see WOZ remade: Amy Adams as Dorothy, WETA Digital for special effects. It could probably be done a little scarier than the orginal with great success.

Just as long as Tim Burton does not direct it or he'll cast Johnny Depp as Dorothy...

Good price OP, and cheaper than the DVD version...

agreed, past Planet of the Apes, its just been to dark

Thanks in for 1.

I think this is the same price as DeepDiscount, but it's hard to tell because of DD's poor image quality.

I watched this last night. I really didn't notice any improvement in the BD version than the regular DVD. I was a bit disappointed. The extras that are included are pretty cool, though.

Its the same price because you are buying from DeepDiscount through Buy.com

Are you sitting 12' away from your 42" display? Then no, you won't notice.

FYI, there are at least three versions of this set, one with Digital Copy and one without. This is the one that DOES NOT appear to have the Digital Copy. If that matters to you...
Amazon had the one WITH digital copy for about $46 just a week or two ago. Its back up to $60

Or how about an even better deal--I thought it was sold out, but its back--at Amazon the one WITH the Digital Copy and a Set of 4 8x10 posters for $44.99 (link) -

***EDIT***
The above is actually the DVD version (NOT the BLURay version) Sorry.

The Ultimate Collector's Edition does come with a digital copy... The 2 versions that do not are the WalMart single disc version and the Target 3-disc version... Also the link you posted madden from Amazon is for the DVD, not the Blu-ray...

Ah crap. Thanks for noticing that-now I have to cancel my order. I didn't even see that-dang-it. Sorry for any confusion folks - my bad.

But still on the one in the first post--it doesn't indicate that it has the digital copy anywhere in the description - how do you know that it does have it? Or am I missing it?

Amazon has two Blu versions (had 3) They differentiate between the two versions, but Buy.com doesn't mention the DC at all.:
Without Digital Copy
With Digital Copy

FYI, the BluRay with Digital Copy at Amazon is now down to $42.99 free ship.
LINK
According to the description, this may also contain the 4 character posters (excl to Amazon).
