OP: Should put YMMV in headline. Not all Borders Rewards members got the $5 Bucks this go around (Like me). I got $5 about a month ago, so they are definitely doing this by region or other demo targeting.
Didn't work for me either. I agree, it might be based on targeted marketing.
For instance, how many items you have left over in your "cart", how much you have spent in recent history, how many times you visited the site, when you last made a purchace, your ratio of store purchaces to online purchaces, how many times you shopped without purchasing, region, demographics, etc.
Thanks for the heads up, hopefully it will help some people!
I got mine- they sent an email to me as well. I also had $5 from last month's 3x rewards accrual. Stack them with a coupon, and there are some deals to be had!
I seem to recall being able to stack the $5 BB with a % off coupon before but noticed that the current 30% off coupon states that it may not be used with other coupons. Although Borders Bucks are not a coupon, I expect that it might be questioned (but am going to try tomorrow anyway!).
$24.99 - $5 - $10 = $9.99 (same as at Target or WalMart) and get a $5 Borders Gift Card.
This assumes that Borders knows how to handle manufacturer's coupons, I certainly hope they do. Sadly, while $24.99 is higher than other stores, is still better than 30% off list, so that coupon will not work. However, you could use it with the gift card you get back to buy something else. Now, if they would PM another store, then you'd have a deal!
Amusingly, the email said it was because I was one of their best customers, which is far from the case!
