I was in the Best Buy Mobile store at Union Square in Manhattan today and saw that they had the Motorola CLIQ for $99 for 2 yr. contracts - not only new but also renewal upgrades and added Family Plan lines. The deal was also available at the new regular BB across the street. Appears to be not just these stores, and probably is chain-wide, but I'm not sure, so YMMV. It was not available online when I checked this morning.

thats an awesome deal im due for an upgrade too and would love to get this phone...too bad my local best buy only sells the tmobile prepaid phones....so i emailed best buy to see if they can tell me the closest best buy near me that does sell tmobile
Agreed that you can enjoy some benefit of the phone through wifi, but then you're still tethered - may as well use a laptop/netbook (in the latter case, for a similar buy-in cost). The point of a 3G smartphone is losing the tether.
I don't see how the 24.95 plan sucks - I have it with my MyTouch. Comparable or better deal to anyone else's data plan cost... but sure, I wish it were cheaper.
But this is off-topic. On topic, yes, they will make you get a data plan with this phone, as they do for all their android phones if you buy them at anything other than full price (or buy them second hand).

Yes, the data plan is required, but I don't see much point in having this phone without a data plan unless you have consistent wifi while on the go, which is highly unlikely!

wont t-zones work with this phone instead of a full-blown data plan ?
