I personally wouldn't aim IRs at a baby for any length of time. Even camera installers try to limit their eye's exposure to IRs. You generally don't want to mount them where someone will be closer than 3ft for more than 3 mins (for more powerful IRs). I wonder if you mount this far enough away if you will still be able to see much? You might be tempted to move the camera closer, but I personally wouldn't do that. Honestly, 12ft IR distance means these are very low powered IRs, but I don't know if they consider it an issue. If you can feel any heat from the IRs, it's too close.
I'd look for an IR-less zero lux bulletcam with a Sony EX chipset and use a small mount of ambient light.

I have the old one (since Jan '09). Works well- no WiFi interferance, adjustable volume and "squelch".
Range is just barely enough (think cordless land line phone)- since you usually want to use this when you are too far away to hear your baby crying. Sorta pointless if you are in the next room.
Battery life is accurate - 6 hours. I thought this was a little short a few times, but would still buy again.
Adjustable alert (I don't use this. It is for if your baby cries too softly. It chimes when a volume threshold is reached)
The old model had a useful nightlight built into camera.
Easy set up, and I could have added a total of four (indoor or outdoor) cameras...maybe for the back yard later.
