Went to Costco to pick up an iHome clock radio for my office, but found this Altec Lansing M402SR instead for $90 - 30 instant coupon = $60 + tax. Very glad I did. Elsewhere it's $100-175.
These were flying off the shelves because the discount makes it cheaper than the iHome IP97/99 clock radio. Even better, this Altec Lansing doesn't look like a bedside clock but more like a speaker system. Sort of has a 70s retro Bang & Olufsen vibe (good or bad), very nice sound with ample bass, customizable functions, and touch controls. It also has dual alarms, a full-function wireless remote and an additional wireless snooze button. The snooze button allows you to place the unit across the room but still turn it on/off/snooze in the morning (or from your desk during phone calls). It fits and charges all docking iPods and displays each song title during play. The inverse yellow LCD display shows day/date/time and is dimmable + off. FM radio reception is quite good in my area and allows 4 presets. The docking tray slides in and out, perhaps a little flimsy, but durable enough. The only odd feature hyped is the name "Moondance Glow" which refers to an LED light bar on the back that gives a subtle wash of color on the wall. You can choose from a dozen mood settings that create a soft glow in the dark or turn it off altogether (e.g., try Tropical Teal while playing a little Barry White, if you get my drift). It's actually nice and not as gimmicky as it sounds, though I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Warranty is 1 year + an additional year if you register online. There's also an eMusic coupon inside for 35 free songs.
Even at $90 this iPod speaker/dock/clock/radio is worth it IMHO, but why pay that? I think the Costco discount is available through November.
Moogler said: Anyone know if this will work with the iPhone? Its not listed in the specs but it does say iPod touch so maybe? Thanks!
According to one review this model lacks GSM shielding so you'd have to put your iPhone into airplane mode to avoid interference. The company makes a similar more expensive model that is iPhone compatible where the unit also stops playing whenever you get a call. However, no groovy moon lighting . Link here
