Not an earthshaking price, but not bad at all. Shows up on Bing.com as being $89.99, but $49.99 when you click through to the site. There is also $50 rebate for the printer if purchased with any Canon digital camera, so it would be FAR.

I just traded in an iP4000 after 5 years of heavy use, it never burped even once. The iP4700 is the great...great granddaughter of the iP4000.

Not quite. the ip4000 used unchipped ink tanks, so you can use generic ink. This does not. You'll go broke buying the ink, not the printer.

You can get non-OEM chipped tanks with generic ink, cheap. That's what I plan to do. You can also just get a re-chipping tool for $12.

Can you explain more about this please. Never heard of this but it sounds great.

I am also interested in knowing what this means. I currently have a brand new IP4600 which uses the same ink as the IP4700. When I went to Meritline.com for ink some of the catridges were listed as chipped and the dirt cheap ones are listed as un-chipped. And now I hear re-chipping. So please can any one help us here?

1) Chipped = ?
2) Unchipped = ?
3) Re-chipped = ?

Thanks for your time.

WalMart has MP490 for $49. which is a better deal?
