This is my first post. Looks like one of good deal for building a new AMD desktop.

Link

$245.97 - $44.97 combo discounts - $10 MIR(Exp 11/30) = $191 with free shipping

It comes with ATX midtower case with 450W power supply, AM3-supporting motherboard (onboard ATI Radeon HD 4200 + HDMI), Athlon II X2 240 (2.8GHz) cpu, and 2GB (2 x 1GB)DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)ram. Just add CPU cooler fan, HDD, ODD, OS, mouse, keyboard and monitor to build the full set.

ehh its not bad but nothing amazing especially considering its ddr2

You will also need CPU fan as it doesnt come with one.

Thanks, just corrected.

Why is ddr2 bad? ddr3 is only about 10% faster than ddr2.

not speed but price

right now they are about even but as more ddr3 production ramps up ddr2 will go the way of ddr in terms of price.

An example of this is say about a year ago I bought 4 gb of ddr2 1066 ram for 60. Now it is at least 85

just trying to help people future proof themselves
(well the best you can in the world of computers lol)

DDR3 is about 40% slower than the OCZ AM2 Special memory if you can find it. It handles page files twice the size of DDR3. I did buy 16 sticks when OCZ had their $50 rebate on 8gb. Figured to be $10/gb.

This isn't a bad deal at all, considering the case and power supply are included. Free shipping. For me the only two extra parts needed are a SATA drive and a CPU fan. I do have a concern, my video card is an X1550. It takes a minimum 450 power supply. Taking a chance this will be able to carry it.

No optical drive you got to add that, I am pricing it so far I was at $201, not it's $245.47. To bad the CPU is OEM forces you to get the fan and grease cooling. DDR3 seems cheaper than DDR2. This is only 2GB deal.

nice first post op, welcome to fw!

I got new retail box AMD X4 630 and Asus M4A785TD-M EVO Socket AM3 Micro ATX Motherboard with AMD 785G integrated graphics chipset, let me what kind of case I have new

I ordered $25 DVD+-RW (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/960875/) and $12 CPU cooler (from eBay).
I'm also just planning to pick up ~320G hard around $30~40 from seagate outlet (begins Nov 19th).
Total prediction is 191+25+16+40 = $272 around for desktop itself...
I still believe this is not so bad deal for low~mid-end users.
FYI, I'd like to recommend you to check another thread for building AMD desktop http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/961476?highlight_key=y...

Just bought 750G hard + color printer at only $65 from Newegg (linky). Canon printer for resell can be around $30~$40, then finally get a decent 750G for $25~$35, Hooray!

The sad thing is that zxcvb went back and edited this post and I still have no idea what the heck he is trying to say.

Page file size is related to the total amount of RAM installed into the system. It has nothing to do with whether or not that RAM is DDR2 or DDR3.
