i've never tried schwans... any comments on quality/taste?

i've never tried schwans... any comments on quality/taste?

Not really missing much. It's a bit better than the cheapest comparable frozen food in your grocer's freezer, but not by much. In fact, I really only care for the ice cream and try not to buy the other stuff. To disappointed. Just MO.

Really depends on what you are looking for.. Unlike the previous poster, we do not really care for their ice cream, but we are probably in the minority. I feel its way overpriced, as is the case with most of the meat offerings they have.. If the taste made up for the price difference that would be a different story for us.Our favorites include the sweet cut corn(773), fire roasted vegtables(797), garlic mashed potatoes(772), marinate-on-demand (very tasty) beef(476), 90% lean burgers(421), french fries(770), green beans(790), spicy chicken filets(590), and grilled onions& mushrooms(167).. I have yet to find store bought frozen that can hold a candle to the above, and at any given time we have these items in our freezer. Most of our favorites are their "livesmart" foods and are easy on our waistlines as well as our budget. They also have their share of high calorie comfort stuff, so if interested in trying them, pay attention to the nutritional information.. We keep an eye on any specials they have, and occasionally try new stuff, some good some bad, so we are glad this thread was started to keep up on current discounts.. Thankyou OP!

BTW.. If you have ever had "Red Baron" frozen pizza, you have already tried Schwans because they make them, along with other foods you may find in the freezer case.. Just look at the small print on the box for the Schwans symbol...

I don't see the appeal. Their Chicken Courdon Bleu is OK, but Costco's is better. Their frozen pizza is sad and pathetic. The only thing so far I have liked from them is their breaded green beans that you can bake.

Oh yeah, and our delivery guy stops by even when we don't order, which is kind of annoying with a baby sleeping in the house. However, he's really nice - he wrote with a Sharpie on the cover his remaining stops this year and also the M2 code.

Not exactly an endorsement

The $10 Take-N-Bake Costco pizzas beat the Schwans one hands down. They had a pizza special recently tho so I have a handful in the freezer to go thru. As noted above: not impressed.

I actually agree and should have mentioned their pizza leaves alot to be desired. Only kind I tried that was decent tasting was the pizzeria style, but it gave me wicked heartburn. I was just pointing out that they aren't just into home delivery..

I don't really see how Schwans makes much profit. Driving around all day in that huge truck can't be cheap...

Seven whole grains and seeds Multi Grain Loaf Bread 6 - 3.5 oz. loaves $2.99 reg 5.99

Customer Rating: 4.9 out of 5 (278 reviews)
Excellent, wholesome mix of seven whole grains and seeds pack this delicious loaf. Simply thaw and serve or bake in the oven for bakery-fresh aroma and flavor. Perfectly portioned, use one loaf now and keep the rest frozen for later. Soft and ideal for slicing to serve with dinner, making delicious sandwiches or nutritious french toast topped with fruit.

Have you seen their prices?

Me Love Schwans Their Holiday Tin Ice Cream is different than the regualar stuff and I am now addicted to it Just bought another tin

In the past 2 months I have been not satisfied with their service. They will only deliver once every 2 weeks. I have requested 3 Catalogs (1 Current Catalog , 2 Braille Catalogs for my friends who are blind). from them and never received them until 12 weeks later after I called them 3 times. I did place an order with them for a FREE $10.00 meatballs and received it when I asked it. I wass pleased with that, But other then that, I wouldn't waste my time with them.

Regular items in our house:
Stuffed Chicken Parmesian
Onion Rings
Potstickers
Ice Cream (chocolate marshmallow
Tortellini
Shredded Pork Tamales

Also tasty:
stuffed jalapeños
sweet cream cheese stuffed pretzel bites
mini cinnamon buns
egg rolls

Our Schwan's guy is excellent. I've noticed their new pricing enticements - many of the items we frequently buy will be offered to us on discount by the driver when we haven't ordered them as part of our regular order. So now I don't give a regular order until I find out what my personalized specials are first....

A few of us in the block use to be regular customers, but with the economy we basically order only when there is a deal. There has been very few deals lately. I've noticed they have been lowering their prices, some are getting close to being worth placing an order for.

I have to agree with the pizza, no one is missing anything. Ice cream is good, but jeez there is a markup, most meats are not worth the price, although we have found a few of their roasts, diced beef tips and bbq pork to be surprisingly good.

Personally, I don't know how they are surviving in this economy. Back last year our driver was mentioned he was working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day just to meet his quota.
