These are just a few of the deals that I felt deserved special mention. If you find a better deal or think there are other laptops that give you more bang for your buck, then please feel free to post them here and share with the community, as your comments or criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks for that. I am in the market for a new laptop. I've had bad problems with Sony VAIO - overheat and immediate shutdown problem and HP Pavilion DV2310 series - conked off in 2 yrs with black screen problem.
Wondering which brand to buy next.

nice! notebooks are so cheap these days. I'm leaning towards the Toshiba -- they've always been solid and have good warranty support.

I'm looking for a desktop replacement, so the 17.3" HP G71-340US is on my radar. I see that Staples is offering it next week in the BF sale for the same price ($599-50 rebate). It was on sale for the same price a couple of weeks ago. I need to buy at Staples, because I have gift cards to pay most of the $$. It seems to me that I could go to Staples this week and get it price-matched.
Update: Added eMachines (eME627-5082) AMD Athlon TF-20 15.6" Notebook $299.99 w/ Free In-Store Pickup at MicroCenter.com to the post (Thanks to bigotedson)

I agree and bought Sunday. Even with the tax this is still a great deal. 3 year manufacturer warranty.
10/100/1000 wired LAN, 802.11(b/g/n) wireless, multi-reader/writer card slot, HDMI, 4-USB, eSAT, DVDRW burner, 4GB of RAM expand to 8GB, 15-17.3 ultra-brite screen. Full size keyboard. Dual Core AMD or Intel. Okay so this is pretty much what I am looking for. A lot of these above for $399 don't offer these features. Only ACER and Gateway comes close to these features. This can be had for $399 to $499. I see no body mentions QVC, HSN and ShopNBC deals.

Not sure what your experience is with Microcenter, but with CompUSA and Circuit City gone, we are running out of places (Best Buy, Microcenter) to be able to actually going and look at and play with stuff before buying. For that reason alone I hope these stores survive.

Acer (AS4810-8480) come with 2 years warranty. I got a display, but very nice, no too much scratches on body, no scratches on screen. with 2 year warranty and free bag. Got last one in Arlington TX. Before found this post.

Yeah, the Acer laptop looked really nice. Unfortunatly the only one they had in SoCal was a scratched up one with a broken 'N' key. Maybe this exact laptop will go on sale again before black friday.
The Lenovo has no compact memory card slots apparently?

I would NEVER NEVER buy any laptop has Celeron cpu, does not have Windows 7, memory less than 4 GB, without HDMI output, screen size than 15", price more than $430, ACER brand (people owned their laptop understands what I mean). Best Buy has one (HP) this week.
Well, we know where you stand. The new celeron dual cores are a pretty good chip, and all the acer built laptops we've bought over the last few years have been excellent. Great screens and keyboards, solid build quality. Way better than the Dell and HP laptops we've looked at.

I'm not certain how much I trust this as they are pushing for you to purchase warranties from them - a bit like the auto dealers who used to try to get you to buy undercarriage rust protection. If their statistics are true, then the real question is WHICH BRANDS, models etc - much like Consumer Reports compilation of their subscribers' reported auto reliability.

I have not problem with MicroCenter - but then they are but "around the corner" from me!
"brand reliability" is funny..... as if Dell or HP actually manufactured the parts inside.... hah! many HP, dull, Toshiba, Sony laptops share the same parts.

I would not expect any customer support since the price is so low.

Great post, Logician1313! Will you make this a weekly thread? This would be a fantastic shopping aid for when my friends ask me that annoying question "What's the best laptop to buy out there?" without mentioning anything about budget, specs, primary usage, minimum acceptable coolness factor, etc! Many fw'ers will know exactly what I'm talking about
does this survey account for absolute value or just based upon number of falures per mfn. In other words if a mfn produces more laptops will they end up with a higher failure rate because stats not properly calculated?
