anyone have experience with the maytag's for $998?

mrredskin said: anyone have experience with the maytag's for $998? I'd buy the LG - NOT - the Maytag. While I can't speak for their washer/dryer units, I can tell you a bunch about how they treat their customers:

Whirlpool does not stand behind their products at all.

Whatever you buy, don't let yourself get fooled by Maytag (Whirlpool). The Maytag repairman is definitely NOT a lonely guy any more.

I have had a litany of trouble with my $700 Maytag dishwasher that you've seen described by others as well. My list includes:

- Racks that fall apart since the plastic they used can't handle the heat;
- Broken latches -the second one is about to break (just broke after a year) the same way again;
- Parts from manufacturing left in the pump to grind away;
- Parts from the disintegrating interior that get into the pump and grind away;
- Stainless steel that isn't even close to stainless;

The latest?: the "gummy-worm" material they use for a gasket seems to dissolve in water over time. So now, when my $700 Maytag dishwasher is moaning and groaning away making more noise than two Bosch would, it is also leaking all over the kitchen floor.

My biggest complaint isn't any of these issues though. Just like General Motors the biggest problem this company has is the way they treat their customers after the sale. I've called and complained (I don't yell and scream) since we bought this thing, and got excuse after excuse until the warranty ran out. After the warranty ran out I was told "sorry, you're out of warranty, we can't help you". In my final talk with CS, I was finally offered a concession: A coupon to buy another Maytag to replace the one I've had constant problems with! What a slap in the face. How stupid am I?

Well, I can tell you this landfill-candidate will be replaced by a Bosch ASAP so I guess I only fall under the "fool me once" category.

Google "Maytag Neptune class action."

Note that "Neptue" was Maytag's top-of-the-line stuff where the washer alone cost almost $1000.

Please read how they treated their customers.

Do not buy Maytag!!!!!!!!!! My first on lasted 27 years, so I purchased another one...big mistake! They replaced parts the first year and I purchased the extended warranty for the second year and the warranty company replaced the parts again, and they wouldn't renew my warranty and I ended up with a three year old washer that will not work.

The Maytag Bravo`s we got at work run all day long, 6 days a week, they are about 3+ years
old and we have had no trouble with them..with very heavy loads too..

I looked at the LGs a few hours ago. They look nice, but Lowes has the Samsung set for $100 less and the only real difference is the LG was has 1 extra cycle. Probably going with Lowes since it's a mile from the house and HD is 30, plus the $100+ diff and easy enough to use the 10% movers coupon.

i checked the LG out today, they wanted $229 for the stands EACH. unfortunately the wifie wasnt too enthused about the front loaders without the stand.... kinda stinks that they cost that much (more than cancels the energy saver rebate). oh well, heres to hoping the whole setup gets much much cheaper in the future

does anyone know how much HD charges for installing washer and gas dryer? The only info I see is free delivery and haul away.

The solution I use is to bend over to put the clothes in and out of these appliances! Only in America will you see appliance pedestals! Although some places requires that gas appliances be 18" higher than the floor when installed in a garage.

Has anyone attempted to use a 10% mover's coupon in connection with these specials? Will HD accept them?

Bill is it a physical coupon or just a code?

I used a 10% Lowes coupon at the HD in Santa Rosa, CA for the LG gas dryer. Install was 3 separate lines of $20 but they did take 10% off that. I decided to install myself. Came to $465 plus tax with free delivery and haul away.

It would be a physical one from the post office.

I just ordered the Maytag pair for $578 and sold my old Whirlpool washer and dryer to a retired engineer who repairs them for extra $$$. He told me that he only works on Whirlpool or Kenmore due to the high cost of replacement parts. I bought the maytag due to the older design. I don't want any problems with an electronic board on the newer front load models. A Home Depot employee told me that she spent a fortune on repair bills on her LG front loader, enough to buy a new machine. With only $300 invested in this Maytag washer, I won't feel too bad if I have to replace it. My Whirlpool units lasted 12 years, and still worked. The engineer showed me how easy they were to take apart; he was going to clean them up and replace the clutch on the washer; he paid me $100 for the pair and planned to sell them for $240; the clutch is about $40.

The Samsung washer does not have an internal water heater while the LG does. That's the key difference between the two sets. The Samsung with internal water heater will be on sale on Friday at Sears for $999.

Lowes has the Maytag's for the same price. Go to the post office and pick up a moving form to get 10% coupon, just bougth the maytag for $578 - 57.8+tax...sweet deal

I got the LG WM2101HW and DLE2101W at Sears for $998, using Home Depot's prices from the November 22 ad to get a price plus match. A printout of the online ad is better than the current printed flyer from the store since the newest in-store ad makes it look like the $998 is a Thanksgiving special [those are subject to a special Sears price match exclusion]. But once the Sears manager saw the online ad and effective dates of 11/22-11/28, he immediately approved the price match. Maybe it helps that I went in after work, when fewer doorbusters were there.

The Home Depot people were definitely more knowledgeable and explained these True Balance models are designed for out-of-basement laundry use, so I would have purchased there if we were within their delivery radius. But only Sears will deliver and install in our town, which was a deciding factor for this second floor laundry project. A local cartage company had quoted $125 to pick up from Home Depot deliver the units, carrying them to the second floor but not doing installation or hookup. Also, Home Depot was back ordered on these units until December 8th while Sears had them in stock for delivery next week. We ended up spending our overall savings for three-year in-home service warranties which are supposed to cover a yearly tuneup and cleaning in addition to unplanned service calls (I'll be reading those papers carefully tomorrow after more rest). Much as I dislike needless service plans, they seem like plausible add ons here because there are no plumbers let alone LG dealers near our town. We'll have a better idea what that service is worth after seeing how smoothly the installation goes and if Sears can figure out the side vent installation. I had to show the sales clerk the portholes and mention the installation manual to convince him dryers do not universally and exclusively vent from the back

The final price breakout (excluding warranties) was:

Sears sale price (15% off all appliances promo): $722.49 each for washer and dryer
Home Depot November 22 [and Thanksgiving weekend] promo: $549 for washer, $449 for dryer, $998 for the pair.

Sears Price Plus Guarantee match: $998 for the washer and dryer (rung up as a price override for $499 each), less $22.35 more apiece (10% of difference per the price plus matching), for net cost of $476.65 per unit.

Delivery is $65 (installation is free) and Sears has an online rebate for appliances over $399 purchased between 11/26 and 11/28 that rebates the cost of standard delivery and haul away (program H090768, form available on Sears' rebate center web site).

I missed a few tricks in not referring to another quote I had from a third appliance dealer for the cord and stacking kit prices during the negotiations. Sears charged $18.99 for the power cord and $25.99 for the stacking kit; the local dealer quoted $9.95 for the cord and $20.00 for the stacking kit. Since I also have that quote in writing (related to another laundry set quote, but the LG stacking kit is universal) I'll call Sears tomorrow about that and start another round of price matching under the 30 day price guarantee. I should also check what competitors charge for the braided stainless steel filling hoses--those are $22.99 at Sears!

My state has not implemented any EnergyStar rebates for washers or dryers yet so people with those appliance rebates could do even better than this. Regardless, I'm satisfied to have found these LGs for less than my last stacking Kenmore combo!

Hey guys whatever you decide to buy, I was reading in one of the forums here about with these units being high effiency/Energy Star complaint, many will qualify you for a discount from your utility company. I checked mine here for my Maytag washer I bought and sure enough there is a $50 rebate on the washer.

Ahh... I see someone did mention this already...

Right, be sure to check the federal EnergyStar page and/or your local utility. The 2009 energy incentives are federally funded but being handled at an individual state level, so each state has a different list of eligible products, and different starting dates. Wisconsin, for instance, has not started any of the 2009 incentives and only offers rebates through Alliant Energy (Madison area utility) for Bosch and Electrolux washers. Oregon, in contrast, is live with the 2009 ARRA incentives, and is offering $150-$180 for qualifying EnergyStar washers.

Here delivery and hookup are free. Don't know about haul away old ones.

None of the people I know like their Maytag appliances.
