Nebraska Furniture Mart is a very reputable furniture/electronics retailer that started in Omaha, NE. It has since expanded to the Kansas City area and Des Moines. I believe Warren Buffett owns a substantial part of the company. I wouldn't worry about buying anything from them.
Being looking at reviews on Amazon, I noticed its battery lasts very shortly.

How well does the battery hold up after a year or so? A lot of cordless appliances become useless after a while because battery doesn't hold charge anymore.

Ours died after about 1.5 years. Battery won't charge anymore. Now it's in the junk pile, replacement batteries are a ripoff. I did like the root, but don't think it's the end-all of vacs - I'd rather have a nice portable that had a car or AC feed that will last. That's the real pisser about the Dyson - and I'll never, never, never buy one of their crappy products again.

Companies intend to build things that don't last to keep their business going on.
i just bought the same deal from Macys maybe 10$ more but evens out w/ bing, however that one comes w/ the pet attachment, you know the super rolling thing that costs 50bucks by itself, if ppl are interested in that deal check out the Macy's one, no idea on link, but it's the dc16 animal. btw I Cannot review this item as i have not received it from Macy's yet. I can say i have used my dyson 07 for over 5 years and it is still kicking strong, and i have a constantly shedding chow chow (yes if i don't vaccum for 1week, my grey carpet becomes red).

so i trust dyson.
Macy's F&F sale is Dec 2nd-7th (there's a thread in this forum with coupon code). It includes an additional 25% coupon in case anyone wants to wait for the version with the extra attachments, and risk that it will be on sale for $100 again during F&F.
PUrely fwiw: We bought one of these for $149 after loving our normal Dyson. It sucks, and not in the vacuum-appropriate way. Barely picks anything up, clogs easily, battery dies after barely any use. I was incredibly disappointed. (It's also all plastic. Which is true of all their stuff, but on this, it felt unusually cheap.)
I feel like on this one, you're paying for the cool designs. There are other "as seen on TV" handheld vacs that would just as well or better, for cheaper.
